I have an iPod Classic. I will never, ever own another Apple device again. I bought my wife an iPod Nano. It lasted 13 months. It would not work with ANY of the accessories for the classic. It would not even charge in the dock that I had for the classic, but would charge with the cable from the classic and a USB power brick. I got her a 16G Sony mp3 Walkman. I have an Archos tablet to replace the iPod. I also will not (and can not) use or run iTunes. No iOS for me.

Android phone and iOS tablet. Prefer the iOS tablet but the text input is way easier on the phone. Could be a configuration issue.
I am happy to configure Lightroom and Photoshop on my desktop machine but my phone and tablet should just work. Hey, that might make a good marketing slogan! Never mind. |

I use both OS's. I have both android and iOS tablets and use an android phone and iPod touch. Android is the more exciting OS,but I prefer iOS because it is stable and reliable. It works all the time. I don't have to worry about battery drain, overheating, random reboots, devices switching themselves off and SD cards being wiped!!

That.
I don't think much of companies not supporting all of their potential customers just to spare a few $$$. Surprised to see android is winning though. Last edited by EowynCarter; 07-29-2013 at 05:08 AM. |

So Android is currently ahead ... interesting …
The main reason for this poll's to figure out on which system one should focus first. Android or iOS? As a company, we are currently developing ebooks and apps for iOS and then converting it to Android (but it takes a bit longer sometimes) But if Android is the more popular system … then it's obvious to first focus on Android and then convert to iOS. I guess, a company's got to do what a company's got to do to stay in this evolving industry! Anyway, thanks for the feedback! |

I think you'll find that many IOS customers have both, but that there are many more "Android-only" households. And I agree with those who say that to have the best coverage of your market, "both" is the proper development strategy.
One thing that should weigh in your decision is Amazon's app store. I have heard they are resistant to foreign development (such as Great Big War Game developer Rubicon), and the inability of the regular user to install apps from Google Play onto a Kindle-branded Android device will put a limit on your ability to distribute to all Android devices. Apple has no such issue. |

iOS.
Im not a developer and try to use my tech sparingly. Since Apple products never give me trouble, I value them and the operating system. Everything that I need to get done, I can get done on my device or download (usually free) app. Apple saved me (and a bajillion others) from weekly Windows reformatting. Im open to trying Android if iOS starts to break down- but not until then. |

Given only a choice between these two I prefer Android. But I have switched to Windows 8 and Windows phone now since I have outgrown my ROM flashing and tweaking phase.

At the price of being on call all the time? Sort of, but since I am on call pretty much all the time, I'd have to get my own non-smart cell phone if they didn't give me one. Or I'd hold out for the upcoming free Android. I guess my real favorite is Linux, since that's behind the Kindle Keyboard. |

Igoring the obvious exaggeration, I've found that a lot of people who hate Windows had their opinions formed by older versions of Windows. Given the rapid improvement of Windows over the years (at least in terms of stability and security), a lot of those opinions are no longer relevant.

I prefer android and that's what I have for my phone. At the same time I got really tired of trying to read that darn little screen and bought a dedicated e-book reader making the poll moot in my case. Now my phone is just a phone and device to tether my computer to for internet.

iOS for the Apple ecosystem and the superior commercial software support. Commercial game publishers, especially, embrace iOS and seem more hesitant about Android, so that's where it's at for mobile gaming right now.
I also like the "stability" (price, specs, backwards compatibility) of the hardware. When I bought the iPad 2 over two years ago, the top Android tablet was the XOOM, which is now pretty outdated compared to the stop very usable iPad 2, for example (also in terms of support and resell value). Having used Linux and BSD for years in the past, the iOS preferences is peculiarly in contrast to my general attraction to open systems. I may get an Android tablet eventually (been on my mind for a while), but I really do enjoy the iOS experience on both the user and professional level. |
