Moreover, some words have two different headwords, e.g. "may" and "May". However, definition window shows only one of them. If you can jump to the dictionary, you can view the other meaning. Besides, it is not logical to merge these two irrelevant meanings under one headword. Finally, if you look up an word and get "No definition found!" error, how can you work around? Either you will close your book open dictionary etc. and turn back all those steps. Or quickly, you will look up just another word and click "Show Full Definition" button to jump to the dictionary so that you can search whatever you want. Actually, these problems seem to appear rarely but it is not the case for me, may be also for many other people who read books in non-European languages. |

You want a "look up" button in all cases. Does any of the Amazon solutions distinguish between May and May in the following examples? May the force be with you. In May the force was with me. Or Polish and Polish? Polish makes boots shiny. The Polish wear shiny boots. (When asking for the World, no sense in cutting any corners.) |

I almost fully agree with sevenkul's post.
The only differences are ... 1. I quite often meet these problems (not just "rarely") ... even though ... 2. I read books in European languages (e.g. English, German) ... and ... 3. I sometimes get wrong dictionary entries displayed (i.e. not the word(s) that should be displayed, which is usually related to inflection related "glitches") ... and ... 4. Quite often, when I read a "definition", inside of the displayed "definition" I find another word(s) which I want to get "definition(s)" of (i.e. call the dictionary "recursively"). For now, this is NOT possible from inside of the small "definition window" -> one always needs to "Show Full Definition" first. See also my post #1449 in the JBPatch (page 97) thread. Last but not least, do not forget about people who may want to polish their Polish in May (even though it's June now). ![]() Last edited by pepe_alter_ego; 06-24-2013 at 12:29 PM. |

I am just trying to get a good mental image of how the current situation does/doesn't match the common requirements. Not that I can do much about it myself. ![]() But we do have a "worked example" of building a custom dictionary for the Kindles. Although Klingon may not be a commonly used language, the "worked example" does demonstrate most of the mysteries in dictionary building. And we (the forum members) have been messing with (or messing up) the Kindle GUI for a long time. |

The crash *might* have been caused by the Kindlet jailbreak, though I seriously doubt it. Then again, this is pure Java, and shouldn't be crashing anything, as it only modifies Java's security policies in-memory, using standrd and well-documented methods. Or, at most, it could crash the framework, but not the entire system to a point where it erases all user settings... :/ |

Summer Gremlins?
While on my semi-holiday, the collection of test Kindles sits on a shelf. They are allowed to nurse on a wall charger once every week or ten days. Week before last, my K3 changed its behavior. ? ? ? ? ? Said to myself: "self, deal with that later" |
