Plus, don't like how the ending of a book/movie/series, read fanficion. For instance I've mentally replaced Deathly Hollows with a fanfiction that makes more senses, is better written and has less plot holes than DH. Added bonus it didn't pair up the village idiot with my favourite character.

It's free and the world building is already there and if you don't like it you didn't pay a dime for it. I've bought several books that weren't worth the pixels on my ereader.
And fan fiction can serve a useful purpose. I don't mean taking a fan fic and changing things round to create something new. I mean that writing a fan fic can be good practice for creating a whole new world. If you can write a convincing, enjoyable fan fiction then you are getting good practice in writing that will reflect in your own original fiction later.

Erm.. that's the one thing it isn't practice in by definition. The whole point about fanfic is you're writing in an already established world. It allows you to write stories whilst skipping two of the most difficult parts - world-building and creating compelling characters.

Now if you'd said it's a good way to learn dialogue and plotting then I'd agree.

Well maybe not a whole new world from scratch, but you do have to remember to take established canon into account (even with A.U. stories) when you are working out your plots. You have to learn to keep things consistent so that the story isn't totally unbelievable. If Snape picks on Harry for reasons other than James Potter in the story you have to work out plausible reasons why your new reason for his bullying takes place.
