Interesting solution. Is the graphite mark visible when the frontlight is off?

nope, but the older glos are a tad more on the greyish side themself when it comes to the background color without light.

Thought of getting the H2O if the problem is uncommon but looks like both Kindle & Kobo have many users with this issue. Just do a search on the forum, google or amazon and there is huge list of users complaining. Some mentioned that they have to exchange 5 times till they got a perfect one so this defective spot is very common for eink. Returning a device is a hassle as I don't live in the US/CA but I might just try my luck.
I have an H2O that I bought from Chapters. There is not a single spot of any kind on the light layer. Also, it's not common as all you get are people posting who have such an issue. There are MANY more people with Kobos and Kindles who do not post when they have a Reader that has no such defect. You don't get people coming online just to post that they don't have a problem. So take those that do post as a very small subset of owners of Readers with a front light and it's very uncommon given how many Readers are sold.

Why is it you go looking for problems where they don't exist? You keep posting about that video saying pin holes are common on Kobo because of that video and that pin hole is a problem with the camera.

Tried your method, but it didn't pan out -- it seems like it doesn't affect the screen at all :/ Maybe my pencils are wrong. So my last chance is a matte screen protector, gonna try it next week, should be working like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRoL2q-tU-Q removing the e-reader's native matte layer and adding a new one on top of it.

Let's take the number of Kindle and Kobo users here that have a Reader with a front light. Now take the number of posts about pin holes and you'll see that its a very small number. And this is just a small sample. The number would be even smaller taking into account users outside MR.

Doesn't the number have to be larger? Isn't there some sort of math law/theorem/thingie that says something like "the sum of a bunch of positive numbers must be greater than any of the individual numbers that are added together?"

You're obviously unacquainted with the 'new math'...

I an see the spot in the Glo HD but not the H2O. Yes, it does look like pinhole.

Pretty sure this time both of them are pinholes and not due to camera lens. If you play the video full screen hd from 2:32 to 2:37, you can see him move the device and the pinholes stayed.
Sorry, I can't see it here. Maybe it is that I can't get the same resolution that the photo has. Do they mention it in the review or elsewhere? Those guys annoy me to much to want to listen to their reviews if I can help it.

You seem to be really concerned about the pinholes. I would suggest you stop being so, or go back to paper books. Why do I say this? Because the only thing you can do about them is to take the device back and try again. It is a manufacturing defect that all the brands recognise. And they have been doing better. When the Glo came out, there where LOTs of complaints. When the Aura HD came out, there were a lot of complaints but not as many. And fewer with the Aura. For the Aura H2O, there were hardly any and the same goes for the Glo HD. I'm sure there has been one report here of pinholes in a Glo HD, but I can't remember more. If they have been reported elsewhere, can you point them out?

My understanding is that Kindles had the same problem and has improved with time. And the Nooks was even worse than any of the other devices.

I played it a few times in fullscreen and can't see what you're seeing - screenshots? I don't know that they have the frontlights turned on in that demo, do they?

(ETA: also, what davidfor said.)

I can see the 2 spots in the pics and video, but honestly with compressed images and video, it could be 2 specks of dust sitting there on the screens that reflect back more with lighting. I would have thought had the spots been really there and that noticeable that the reviewer would have made mention of them, but since it's Goodereader...

I find it really hard to believe that they got 2 readers with a bad screen as well.

I have 3 on my Aura HD, but I only noticed them after 3 months, when I put the lights over 30% and tilted the screen to an angle where the top was further away from me.
I don't usually see them, I keep the light between 10 and 20 normally.
When I do see them I only notice the one that is in the middle of the screen, the other 2 are in places where there's no text. But as I said, it's very rare that I even see it, I know it's there, but I just don't use the light as bright as it needs to be seen.
It is down to luck, so really no need to go checking every video and counting spots.
