Problem with touchscreen
I have a Nook Glowlight, and the touchscreen isn't responding properly. When I choose the p, I get the r. When I choose backspace I get an f and so on. I haven't dropped the ereader so I don't understand what to do.

Hi,
Sorry about your tribulations. Something to try is do a soft reset and if it doesn't work you'll have to do a factory reset. Just google for the methods. I suppose you haven't made any changes such as rooting the device so I'd suggest you're better off returning it for a repair/exchange if it's still under warranty. Aside from that, I don't have anymore insight about this particular issue and hope that someone will be able to help you. Last edited by lulalullah; 10-15-2014 at 06:41 AM. |

If the reset doesn't work - check your software is up to date and there is no trace debris around the screen/bezel edge - hope that helps

I purchased a Nook Glowlight two and a half weeks ago, have read on it every day and haven't experienced any problems with its screen. I'm happy with the device (although I may still be basking in the "honeymoon glow"). Compared to my beloved Nook Simple Touch -- which has been rock-solid -- the Glowlight seems to display text more crisply, and the backlighting as well as the battery life is good (with WiFi turned off). I'm particularly enjoying the backlight because it's much less cumbersome than attaching a Mighty Bright clip light to the case, as I was doing with the ST.
I'm aware of the Glowlight's limitations, but I don't miss the lack of the physical page turn buttons, or the lack of microSD card capability. Although the storage space for sideloaded content is limited to ca. 500 MB, that's twice the stock space on the ST, so I'm a happy camper. The one oddity I've noticed about my unit is that the Nook navigation button (the "n") on the bottom bezel/frame is more finicky than my ST's button. I have to pay more attention as to where I press the button, in order for it to respond properly. I also purchased a cover/case for the Glowlight, thanks to the helpful suggestions mentioned here: http://ebookfriendly.com/best-nook-glowlight-covers/ Kowalczyk, Piotr. "Nook GlowLight covers and sleeves – picks and tips." 18 Aug. 2014. (In a pinch, an old Nook ST case can be used. In the Comments section, reader Kevin Phillips attached two photos showing that although the Glowlight does not fit perfectly in the ST case, the fit is "close enough" to be a viable alternative). I ended up ordering this cover manufactured by Coodio, and am pleased with it so far: [Tiny URLS are not allowed - MODERATOR] Premium Advanced Leather Cover Sleeve Case with Magnetic Closure for NOOK GlowLight (NOOK 4th Gen). $13.99 http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Advanc...nook+glowlight (I don't have the multi-angle standing case, so I can't offer any comments on it). I debated a lot before making this purchase; the Kobo Glo and Kindle Paperwhite were also candidates. I know that B&N's e-reader division is on very shaky ground, so I was willing to jump ship from the B&N ecosystem. I was really rooting for the Kobo but, in the end, I couldn't handle one in person (as there are no stores that carry them in this area) and I was a bit spooked by what I read here about Kobo's often buggy firmware and poor customer service. For me, the Glowlight was more of a known quantity, plus there is a brick-and-mortar B&N in my neighborhood. I figured that if I encountered any hardware problems, it would be easier to address them in person. Last edited by kalwisti; 08-02-2015 at 12:48 PM. Reason: Fixed typo ; added full URL for GlowLight cover. |

I'm guessing all the Nook tech-support is in India because calling last week I got the heavily accented "Bob" who took me through an inane troubleshooting session. Nook #2 developed the 'tears' in the substrate of it's screen leaking light within 2 weeks of me having it. At the time I said to myself "F#@KIT", it's a design 'feature' of the creature I'll live with it. Last month the screen itself gets squirrelly - pressing "Library" never gets me anywhere, just dumps me in the Home screen. "Bob" despite my protests says "Ve vill deauthorize and reauthorize device to check zat is not problem". Unsure if he could see what I was doing on his end I went ahead with this. It did NOT of course fix squat but left me with a bricked device instead of one I could nurse along until the THIRD replacement arrived.
Which it did not. I got the UPS return label via email. So more than a week later I call since I can't get anywhere with their Return Merch #. I talk to an Indian lady who takes her time to inform me that "Yes, your Glowlight replacement has not shipped because we don't have any in the warehouse at this time." None in the warehouse? Were are all those for sale all over the place coming from? A mothership? A Starfleet replicator? I'm saying nothing while I listen to this improbable development and my blood pressure is going up as I can't get a word in edgewise to this - Oh and please to thank me would you like to much have an upgrade to a color version of Nook instead with a much more better screen with clearer pixels? How much time have I spent on the phone over this issue at this point? What do I have to lose? Sure, why not? Probably have to buy a whole new case, accessories like charger cables and so on... I still have no idea what I'm getting from them. Or when... |

I recently tried the glow light. So far, so good. No problems. I am not crazy about the light color, but its ok. I have found that the screen is very sensitive, I can tap it and it will sometimes flip several pages. I like being able to just press the nook button and the light coming on. I have had instances where it kicked me out of the book and back to the home page. That can get kind of annoying, but other than that I have not had any problems. The lighting seems fine. I prefer it out of the case for reading, but when I am done, I have a protective sleeve I keep it in. I mainly need it for the light and loading my subscription books, because I have so many. I also have a paperwhite, which I love too. I opted for it instead of the voyage, it was on sale and to me there wasn't that big of a difference for me to pay the extra bucks for the voyage. I was also looking at the Kobo H2O, because I could also side load my books on that device as well. I love to read, and have spurts where I will read a lot, so this is great for reading at night. I may still get the Kobo h2O for summer reading at the beach.

I've got the first glowlight and the second. I've never had any pinpricks on either. However, my second one will not connect to my wifi...the very same wifi that runs all our laptops, the TV, roku, Apple TV, Amazon fire stick, galaxy tab tablets, iPads, iPhones, Kindles, Nook HD, and Kobos. This is the only device I have to use my iPhone hotspot to wirelessly get books I buy. It's very inconvenient. And I have no idea why it won't connect but I've been trying since I bought it last year and it just won't.

over the four years I've used a Nook Glowlight, using two different models, I've had no problems. I've also used kindle & Sony, but much prefer the Nook Glowlight

Nook Glowlight Poll: Have you experienced screen defects?
I guess I spoke too soon. My glowlight has now developed the light spots on the screen. I've only had it 2 months so I'm going back to B&N today to see if they will replace it.
It turned out to be something on screen lol Last edited by iluvgadgets; 05-25-2015 at 01:32 PM. |

No I haven't. Maybe I am just the lucky customer that I get all the perfect devices.
