I have both 10" and 7" tablets. I use the larger one much more often, but that may be because the screen is easier to read and I'm home most of the time so portability isn't as important for me.
Because the smaller tablets are easier to travel with and priced more reasonably, I think the 7" will continue to grow in popularity, especially now that the screens have improved. I sure do appreciate the lighter weight and dimensions of the smaller tabs; they're definitely easier to hold for longer periods of time. |

I'm prepared to regard 9" as in the 10" category.
BUT it is disappointing to find that when you look at the 'large' readers on this page https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E-book_Reader_Matrix how few of them are actually available. |

For me anything bigger than my 7 inch kindle fire would defeat the whole purpose of leaving my 13 inch Macbook & its carrying bag at home.
I am Poor and Live off free wi-fi. I love being able to just slip my 7 inch tablet into a thigh pocket on my "Cargo shorts" in the summer or the side pocket of my winter jacket and hop over two blocks to the local community college campus and check email and browse my favorite forums. or take itto my local laundry mat to pass the time reading a novel or comic books. |

Interesting. How much does it weigh? Does the battery last several weeks? Are those not key points that sell e-readers? |

I voted for 7 inch tablet because a 10 inch device of any sort would not fit into the pocket of any clothing that I currently own& would require a separate carrying bag/backpack. If I am going to be burdened with a bag/backpack I may as well still carry my laptop around with all its computing power. |

Or are all of you carrying "murses" with you? So for me a 7" is no more portable than a 10". Both are light enough. Last edited by HansTWN; 11-04-2012 at 08:50 AM. |

I am not going to argue with Anabran - but simply reply that I'd rather put a light ereader, with masses of battery life, in my in-flight bag. But that's me (!)
However, I do echo the comment about trouser pockets. I have the Sony T1 which is probably one of the smallest and lightest machines. It will fit in a jacket pocket but never into even the most generously cut trousers I own. |

I think the current state of things is simply due to the popularity of the 10" iPad. Now that Apple has entered the 7/8" form, I expect a lot of the people who once said 10" was the only size will reconsider.

I am a Five foot ten inch former competitive bodybuilder who, at age 49, stays in shape and still weighs about 205 pounds. I am self employed/semi retired and dont even own a "business suit" I do often wear one of those "photographers Safari vests" with all the utility pockets and "live" in cargo pants/shorts. and all of Fall/Winter jackets have pockets that easily accommodate a 7 inch kindle fire. a 10 inch or more device would force me to use some manner shoulder bag or backpack which I Did for years with my 13 inch laptop. for Me 7 inches is the sweet spot but your YMMV. |

It's a tough call as to what size will prevail, but my money would be on the 10 inch, especially once prices start to fall. 10 inches is a great size for reading magazines and PDFs, as well as for watching movies, and is also large enough to be used as temporary laptop replacement when travelling or in certain use cases. |

I don't generally carry the fire in a pocket, but, when I need my hands free, it's nice to be able to tuck it somewhere. Anyone seen a fanny pack for the kindle fire? |

7" obviously - they're cheaper and more convenient. My Nexus seems capable of doing most things. Today in a coffee shop I was reading my books, replying to emails, reading the BBC news and playing chess with folks all round the world. Even with it's leather case the thing is about the size of a small paperback book - perfect.
