I have my calibre library on an external drive, a thumbdrive and on a cloud storage called sugar sync that I keep up to date when ever I add new books. This is in addition to the original copy on my Pc harddrive.

I back up my Calibre library to once a week to an external hard drive.
I love your little picture by your name. Cute.

So tell me how you automatically update to Dropbox please I am begging you.

I think this is right, someone will correct me if it's not.

Copy your Calibre Library to your Dropbox folder, then open Calibre and select the Library button at the top (looks like the Calibre icon).

Select 'Switch/Create Library' and navigate to the Dropbox folder, select your library, hit Ok, and Dropbox will automatically sync any changes you make with your online backup.

You can delete your old library once you're sure it's all working.

thanks this sounds scarey to do. I am not sure even how to copy Calibre to Dropbox, don't you have to have the software installed on Dropbox to work like you had to install Calibre on your computer?

I think I need to find a video on how to do this, it sounds overwhelming. But I really want to be able to access it.

Every ebook I acquire gets stored on a folder on my hard-drive. From there I import into Calibre. My main Calibre library is in a folder on Dropbox. I run a daily backup to an external drive - this is a back up of my entire home folder and includes both my Dropbox and my non-calibre ebook folder. Once a week I take the external drive to work, put it in my desk drawer and swap it for another one that I have there, which then becomes the backup drive for the following week.

I don't think that Amazon can technically do anything on the servers that they rent to DropBox (and to many others, too). And I am sure they would not even consider it.

Yes, that's what I did. It's not scary, because you know it's worked before you delete the old library. In fact, Calibre has the capability of switching between libraries so you can go back and forth and check if you like.

I agree this would be really stupid on their part. I pay for space on the Amazon Cloud, but I am not using it (You have to pay to get unlimited space for music) because it just seems like too much fox and henhouse. Of course, someone erasing cloud data would threaten the entire industry, so it is doubtful it would happen. But if I were banned from Amazon, and it seems this is done without a reason and with no warning, I would just die. Of course, all my books are liberated, so a switch to a nook wouldn't be a big deal.

You don't copy Calibre to Dropbox. You are only storing your library, not the Calibre program. You need to register with Dropbox and set up your free 2gb account A Dropbox folder will be set up on your computer (wherever you say you want it). Then follow the instructions given above for moving your library.

If you use my referral link we will both get an additional free 0.5 gb of storage. This is well worth it as it holds a lot of ebooks. http://db.tt/YFhFLj7
