Yes, and besides the Kobo Touch was a mess. The company was nice and they tried to get the FW to operate correctly, but they were way over their heads. I bought one in April of 2011 and tried to work with them in beta testing the FW changes, as did SCION, but they just made it worse. It might have been liked by the Canadians but only because it was a Canadian company and the new Kindles were difficult to get there. Both SCION and I returned our Kobo Touches before the return period elapsed.

Using the MobileRead search function will find that searching "K5" finds the Kindle Touch, but most hits for "KT" find the Kobo Touch. Redefining KT to also mean "Kindle Touch" only adds to the confusion when trying to do MobileRead searches. Is there a way to restrict MobileRead searches to ONLY this forum, so that using "KT" for its special localized definition would find useful results? Which number to use when referring to a kindle (6-inch eink) model is defined by its major firmware version number. The Kindle Touch runs 5.x firmware, hence its K5 designation. Whatever firmware the new kindles use will follow this same naming convention (especially in the Dev Corner, where logical conventions take precedence over popular opinion). Of course, in THIS forum, definitions are subject to popular opinion and may conflict with terminology as commonly used in other forums and offsite resources. Will it be running 4.x firmware? Of course, you are free to call it a "purple cow" if you wish, but the devs will call it a Kx, where "x" is the major firmware version, even when participating in this forum.

Yes they are the same in every way including firmware just the bezel is black. That's why I said K4B B being for Black.

With two K4's I like Blossoms idea of K4B (black) and K4S (silver) to differentiate them. I guess this is the first time Amazon used an existing FW on a new device, and thus the first time we have encountered this situation of Kx (in this case K4) not being specific enough. It is of course specific to the FW but not to the actual device.

Yep. Either by doing an advanced search, or by selecting the "search this forum" link in the lower top horizontal menu bar.

You can't make people all use K5 I've tried they use KT more than anything in here. Some say K4T so you just gotta thank Amazon for mixing it all up. ![]() |

The K5/KT always had 5.x firmware so should have been a K5 from the start. It was mixed up because there was a lot of speculative discussion here about the K4 and K5/KT before anybody even had one of them. The confusion was because they were announced so close together.
