In contrary to a touchscreen a paper book doesn't start and maybe keeps on to flip pages unnoticed when just accidentally touched. Were you indeed reading in what you call "the old days" you'd know, but obviously you even don't know how to treat a pbook properly and even never learned how to flip pages. Drooling on them is NOT a necessary technique.

Originally, Amazon's battery life was based on one hour of reading per day and was described as being one month. But then another company (B&N? Sony?) said that their battery life was two months, using the 30 min/day rate. So Amazon changed its metric to reflect that.
