It's a lot of quotes but this just about covers the provenance of the name...

Those who where following the C|NET live blog probably noticed that typo (or Freudian slip) posted by their reporter from the hanger floor during the presentation.

Would it work with my UK amazon account ? Meaning would I be able to download my existing kindle books onto it and also make new purchases through my UK account?

I've seen a couple of suggestions that it's to see if it sells/performs ok before they release it outside of the US, but that sounds rubbish to me. I think you are absolutely spot on, it's down to supply, and while it's not ideal for the rest of us, it makes perfect sense for Amazon, and as you say, pretty much what happened with the Kindle Touch.

For anyone desperate to buy it, just look at it positively, you'll get a chance to see how well or not it actually works, and get the chance to see how the Kobo Glo shapes up against it too - then you can make an informed decision and buy it early next year.

The only thing I couldn't do with my Kindle Touch was to buy books on the device itself - it would only connect to the US Kindle Store. But given that I never buy books from the device itself, that was absolutely no problem for me. It gained the ability to connect to the UK store when it was officially released in the UK and there was an "international" firmware upgrade for it.

Downloading books that I'd bought from the "Archive" worked absolutely fine.

Thanks.

But you were able to buy books on your computer and then transfer to the touch via the USB cable?

Yes, certainly. And buy books from my PC and have them sent to the Kindle by Amazon. The only thing I couldn't do was buy books on the Kindle itself.

Thanks.

I'm just trying to decide whether to buy a paperwhite, however the only thing is the guarantee would be tricky and I wouldn't want to ship it back to the US if something went wrong.

Or I could buy a touch. My K3 needs upgrading. It's getting slower and the battery doesn't last as long.

With my Kindle 3 I can buy books directly from the device using the Amazon US Kindle store. I have absolutely no restriction!

Not only have delivery dates been pushed back to the week of October 22, but Amazon has also added a notation "limit five per customer". I would guess that Amazon is doing all it can right now just to fulfill US orders.

Which off course implies that there have been customers ordering more than five. My guess e-bay traders.

"Limit five" sounds like people are buying large lots to sell on Ebay. If they disrupt supplies so that people won't get Amazon orders delivered until after Christmas, the Ebayers can charge a whopper of a price.

It sounds plausible, but Amazon doesn't launch the first Kindle in their history. They should be able to anticipate delivery capacity and make sure suppliers are ready. It is a hercules work I admit.

They should learn from apple how fast they do launch the iPhone 5 in several countries and are able to ship actually.
