One thing I DO miss with my Kindle is that I dont get to see the book-cover every time I pick up the book. Somehow the picture creates a link in my mind with the content.
I suspect I may be at a bookstore and grab a new Kathy Reichs or Janet Evanovitch - only to discover by reading the synopsis that I have the book. I just cannot recognize the cover. And I suspect shopping on Amazon I may try to re-purchase a book because I dont recognize the cover. Sounds funny - but if the Kindle/Nook would flash up the cover art of the book I am currently reading on the screen for a few seconds - it might help. It may also help convert people. |

My Sony T1 shows the cover of my latest book when it is in sleep mode. I love that feature! ![]() I always page back to the beginning of the book when I read on my Kindle. It feels like I am starting in the middle of a book if I don't do that. Fortunately, I only purchase freebies for my Kindle as I would prefer to not *pay* and then have to work so hard to see the cover. ![]() (If I'm spending real money on a book, I buy the pre-formatted epub and read it on some device -- on either the T1 or a mobile device using an app -- where I can see the cover each time I open the book. ![]() |

I understand what you mean. Not a big deal in one way but why should you have to one must ask? Kind of like the collections won't stay in order and the last firmware update took away the bottom line with the page number/location on it.
It seems the kindle programmer decided that no-one needed to see the cover and that is that. In real life one starts with the cover and pages forward. Paging back to be able to see the cover is counter intuitive and slightly irrataing. Location numbers were IMO debugging information accidentally left in and the programmer was afraid to admit it. And of course the Sonys etc have their little quirks and changes that aren't always improvements, not to mention the many little software glitches. Sometimes I wonder if their real programmer died and was replaced by a smurf. Of course they are all great and the application stopped working or the long please waits or periods when their is no reponse to screen taps or buttons and the infamous circling arrows are not the end of the world, but they weren't present in earlier models that I have owned. And if people can root the T1 then the Sony programmer should have been able to address one of these issues at least by now. Sorry for the rant, and I do love my readers, but surely a few fixes for blatent malfunctioning and a few user configurable options would make a lot of us happier and improve sales. It doesn't seem like rocket science to me. Helen |
