New eink Kindles coming?

Sadly, the LG plastic eink screens that were supposed to be released in Onyx ebook readers a couple of months ago were delayed indefinately due to a 20% failure rate (of the eink controller):

So they are not likely to show up in kindles any time soon.

Let me see if I understand (or not at all):

Kindle Touch features:
a) an accelerometer, but no driver for it;
b) a proximity sensor, but no support;
c) a microphone (since Kindle 3) with no use.

The Kindle Touch firmware, by its side, sports:
a) higher resolution, although Kindle can't show it;
b) LED lightning, but no lights in device;
c) capacitive response, but infra-red screen.

Are we being hardware and firmware testers only to report if some useless thing breaks the device so they can put it to work in the future?

Depending on the WTF/h ratio when poking around in the software internals of the Kindle, sometimes "Alabama Song" or "The End" lyrics fit even better

Amazon is now reporting that the Touch 3G is "In Stock" again. So, all that speculation that the out of stock meant a new Kindle on the way, is all baloney. ...or Amazon is having a little fun with all this guessing about a release date.

From what the IT industry rags are telling me tounge tied its not that Amazon is hiding the information is that the company is having a hard time making the technology work right. Personally I would preferr amazon take their time to get it right.

I'd agree. However, if a launch was imminent ie in a few days time, they would be well past getting their tech right. If they were still sorting out the technical issues, I'd think we would be at least a month or two away from a product launch. The thing is that people are pointing at the lack of availability of the Touch and Touch 3G, Kindle DX sale, sale on Kindle accessories and the silent demise of the wifi keyboard as signs that the release of new Kindles being launched this week. Since the Touch 3G is back in stock, I'd think the theory is out the window.
But yes, I'd agree, hold off releasing the new Kindles until the bugs are sorted out.

Yeah I think they originally had it schedule for back to school but ran into some issues I see it coming out around the holidays like last year.

If they're still having tech issues does this mean it'll be implemented differently than the Nook glow? That one has been out for a while so I can only assume Amazon is using a different type of technology for a lighted e-ink screen, otherwise the tech should work.

When I looked today... it says 7-10 days on the touch 3g (us amazon, I don't know about Australia).
