I think sensitive people probably have a really rough time when they are communicating with strangers on the internet.

Again, absolutely correct. I have no issue with that.

I apologise, but my issue was again, it could have been phrased differently for a newbie. Sometimes you join a forum and get so excited you don't read the rules first.......her heart was in the right place, I'm sure, but she didn't know what she was offering wasn't allowed here. Now she does!

I think anyone new to any forum would be intimidated by a harsh response to a well meant, albeit, illegal post.

I want to agree, but I can't. Jumping right in and posting without getting a feel for the forum is rarely a good idea. It's like starting a new job and telling the people who have been there for years how to do their work.

I'm on desertgrandma's side. Its not about what Harry said... he was 100% correct. But its about how the message was delivered. It was unkind. My mum always said, "its never *what* you say, but *how* you say it, thats really important".

Suebear should not have been treated so harshly.

e thread can get back to more appropriate topics, such as how to subvert international copyright law with phoney IP addresses. Maybe when I get upwards of 49,000 posts under my belt, I will know as much as you and not make such ridiculous mistakes.
Aw, don't worry people. The bear has claws, too. And as my granny said, sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling names can't hurt me. Lot of otherr silly things she said, as well

The publishers have allowed reader-to-reader lending for DRMed ebooks in certain very limited circumstances. That is, any book can be lent only once, only to people with the same kind of ebook reader, only for up to 14 days. Also, lending seems to be restricted to the US at the moment.

You first post appeared to be offering to give copies of your ebooks to people, which is certainly not allowed. If you meant that you could lend them once to one person through the publishers' lending scheme, that would be fine.

1. Why? (This is a genuine question)

2. What is the relevance here? Suebear is neither new to this forum nor new to ebooks nor new to life, as I assume. And offering to send copyright protected ebooks via an internet forum is not a question of some special forum rules but of common sense, I would think.

Excuse me, but with 8 posts to her credit, she is definitely new HERE. Try reading her follow up posts......she is definitely new to ereading.

Not all internet forums have the same rules......

And one more time........it wasn't that she broke our rules, which she did tho I"m sure without meaning to.

All that was needed here was a reminder that we just don't condone such posts and that they are grounds for banning........not to be told she was ridiculous for asking, or that she should know better.

MobileRead has always been a very supportive, helpful place to be for newbies, and I'd like to see it stay that way.

Sorry, maybe I've misunderstood you. Your posts made the impression that Harry's answer was okay in general but not okay to a newbie, in this case it would be rude. And that's why my why came. Why this special treatment? Either it is rude (what I didn't think it was in this special case) or it is not, but if then it is to all members here. I can't see why it is more acceptable to be rude to members with 10.000 or more posts than to newbies.

And yes, I've read her other posts before posting, saw the two months instead of the 8 posts and obviously came to different conclusions.

I don't think that there is great danger that MR wouldn't stay very supportive or helpful to newbies, quite the contrary!

SueBear is right though, we very carefully stomp down on copyright infringement here but have no problem giving detailed instructions on how to subvert international contract law (and oblique references to DRM cracking).

Not that there is anything wrong with that, just saying

So, what did Harry say that upset you?
I thought it was reasonable, no instant ban, just a fair warning. So Suebear is new-ish? I assume she can read the posting rules?
