Hi Kovid,

Just loaded down 0.8.60 and all seems OK on author and title search. All versions since 0.8.55 had the problem but something in 0.8.60 seems to have fixed it YEAH!!!

Thanks

Kovid,

I spoke too soon!
After loading 0.8.60 I tried 2 author searches and two Title searches which worked fine. I then went to edit some books and did a search by Title and Calibre crashed again!!

Now back to 0.8.55!!

Am now up to Calibre 0.8.65
Still have the program collapsing running under Work PC (XP upgrade to 3), Acer laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium) and Asus Desktop (Windows 7 Home premium with 8Gb RAM and 1 Tb hard drive. Calibre library on 500GB SSD with plenty of room.

Ran under Calibre under debug on the Acer laptop and when it crashed following debug text resulted.

"alibre Debug log

Started up in 106.65 seconds with 10048 books"

As you can see there are a number of books (10,048) which would differ from most Calibre users but I know there are a few with larger libraries.

The last version that I have to keep returning to is 0.8.55

It is really frustrating and, as it seems, no others are having this problem whether it is something in my setup with Calibre that is causing this problem.

Help please..

@Mitch13 - have you tried this

Create an empty library (TESTLIB) on another drive (eg the 1TB drive on the ASUS Win 7 box)
Use the Copy to Library feature of Calibre to populate TESTLIB from the existing library on the portable SSD (I'll call it PRODLIB).

Do all you can to reproduce the problem on TESTLIB

If you can't reproduce the problem on TESTLIB then the problem probably lies with the portable SSD drive (ouch) or PRODLIB. I would replace the existing PRODLIB on the SSD drive with TESTLIB, if the problem recurs then it is probably a problem with the SSD drive

If the problem still exists with TESTLIB, then it could a 3rd party app that you run on all three systems 'interfering' with Calibre - try running after a Safe with Networking Boot, or shut down/kill all other non-essential tasks.

I recently replaced my daughters Gmail notifier because it was interfering with her RSS news feed aggregator - she's a journo
