Cropping is not the same as reflow. Cropping means removing the margins, or other areas of the page that don't interest you.
Honestly, we're telling you the truth here. Trying to read a PDF formatted for an A4 page on a 6" device is an exercise in frustration, especially (I'd imagine) for a language like Japanese where you need to be able to clearly see the fine details of the kanji characters. |

converting into pdf is OK since you can convert it in such a way as is suitable for 6"
i.e. you have a non-pdf source and you can use that to produce a PDF of any size, font style, margins, ... just don't expect pdfs to work with a dic then, nor with reflow. you should think of PDFs more as image files than anything else. |

lol, in fact there is a J-E dictionary data file for ColorDict that you can download from within the program. So you don't need my EDICT data files that I attached to an earlier post. I will try it out, it is downloading slowly. Oh well, I went about the process a bit backwards I suppose.
Hmm, it downloaded and nothing happened. Possibly it was exactly the same files. nukito, rooting makes things more flexible in that you can install different readers. I don't know about the Kindle, but the stock Nook reader sucks for PDFs. I had some PDFs that I wanted to read on my Nook, so I looked into it. The best solution I found was to use APV PDF Reader in landscape. You have text going from edge to edge across the width of the screen, zoomed in so there are no margins. It is not perfect, but the text is about the same size as the netbook I am typing this on for a typical A4 PDF. Getting the text out of the PDF and reflowing it is possible, but the formatting will probably end up pretty broken. PDFs of books tend to have chapter headings, titles, page numbers, and so on cluttering up the page. The Nook reader will do it automatically for some PDFs, but it's not super pleasant to read. If you put lots of time into it you could manage it, but it would have to be a book you wanted to read 20 times for it to be worth the effort. |

Japanese ebook readers such as Sharp GALAPAGOS, Biblio leaf, are mostly tied into Japanese domestic mobile broadband contracts. Unless you live in Japan, they won't be for you. Kindle supports Japanese font display but Amazon.jp doesn't offer downloadable JP -language content. This means that you'll be looking at .pdf or other formats. (KIndle doesn't support xmdf) Support for .pdfs on Kindle as well as most other e-readers are poor and only possible for text as opposed to image based documents. There's also no kanji or J>E dictionary look-up. On iOS, PDFs display tolerably well and you'll have a number of dictionaries to choose from. They're however more expensive, have shorter battery life and you won't be doing much reading in bright sunlight. |

Based on my experimenting this afternoon, you can look up words pretty well using a Japanese-language epub in Cool Reader and ColorDict. (I am testing with a html version of the script to Final Fantasy Tactics which I had on my computer which I converted to epub using Sigil.) So at least there is "proof of concept" on the Nook Simple Touch. |
