The UK is part of the European Union, clearly.
It isn't part of continental Europe, equally clearly.
It, I would say, is not part of Europe 'culturally', for the majority of people. The UK still has very much an island mentality.
The word 'Europe' does not have a single unambiguous meaning, so people are free to apply their own.

I don't live in a European country anymore. I was born in one, and spent the first 25 years of my life there before moving, so I am a European who happens to be living in the US.

Yes, I realize that's a bit different from the geographical definitions most in this thread are working with. I just wanted to point out that just like "Europe" means more than one thing, so does "European".

Yep I would assume it meant continental Europe ,even through we are supposed to be in Europe it does not really feel a part of it. Thankfully we did not join the Euro or pay Vat on non digital books like Europe does.

Actually we do pay VAT on books, but at 0%. Books aren't exempt from VAT; they're rated at 0%, which legally is a completely different thing.
