Thanks but nothing new.

The Samsung 5.0" Player is great and less than $200 but

doesn't have the 1024 or more screen that the Samsung 5.3" Note has.

It also doesn't have the AMOLED screen but I could accept that.

Maybe Samsung will bring out a Note Touch!

Nope. Nothing new.
Not from Samsung or Archos or anybody else.
Nobody has really shown any stomach for going after the iPod Touch since MS pulled the plug on the Zune hadware.
You'd think somebody would show an interest in the corporate PDA market...

Is there one? I thought it had been completely replaced by the corporate smart phone market.

The Samsung Players 5.0, 4.0, 3.6, and on and on do give you PDA capability and Wi-Fi as well just like the Apple iPod Touch.

What I would like though is for the Samsung Players with 800 pixels across all the screens (5", 4" and 3.6") to have the same or similar screen as the Samsung Note Phone. I think it is 1024 pixels across.
In Comparison the iPod Touch (and iPhone) has 954 pixels and the Archos 43, 854 pixels. Those numbers might be slightly off. Apple just stripped out the phone part of the iPhone, and reduced the thickness cutting out the auto focus part of their camera and also slightly changed the IPS screen and cut out about $300 from the price and got their iPod Touch. (That is what I wish Samsung would do with their Note.)

The problem with a Smartphone is that you can't get it onto a carrier in the US as just a regular "feature" phone plus Wi-Fi. They won't do it, so you have to have 2 devices to get around the pricing obstacle, a regular phone and a Wi-Fi device that doesn't need cell service.

I just don't see the need to pay that extra smartphone monthly charge.

Lots of businesses have high security sections where cameras and cellphones are banned. Many of those do have a need for standalone pocket computing features in those same areas. Its a niche but there's (some) money to be made there. Just as there is in ruggedized industrial PDAs which are still being sold.

I have a Note; it is 1280x800; screen quality for reading is excellent: looks very sharp and is big enough to my 54 year old eyes. I greatly prefer it too my Sony Pocket in all circumstances except direct sun light; even then the Note is readable.
