I agree. If you are going to pay for an eBook, then it better display properly.

It's unfortunate that they wouldn't refund you (although it sounds like the problem is fixed?). One of my pet peeves with Kobo is when they have a poorly formated book and do issue a refund for it (I think I've gotten 5 or 6) is that they just keep right on selling the book with bad formatting (it's possible other retailers do this too, my experience with it is just with Kobo).

You collect ebooks? I'm sorry but that's a little weird. It's just a computer file that you can make infinite amounts of copies of, and you collect them?

I've lost track, but I've got about 25 eBook readers for example. As I occasionally use each (most) of them, I've bought quite a few books 2 or 3 (maybe 4 or 5?) times. I simply don't want to consider "I want to read books X, Y and Z this week. So I have to take reader ABC with me". I just take the reader I like best at the moment and often buy the books again. So I'm building a collection of books. And what else I should do with them? Delete them after reading? They're getting more and more over time and so I collect them. And how are 653 eBooks in my Kindle library not a collection? What else would you call it? And why is it less weird to collect paper books or DVDs instead of collecting digital data? Is it about the medium or about the content and the fun you have? And I obviously don't collect for eternity. I've got maybe 600 Microsoft .lit files that I'm not using/reading anymore. Same, in some time, will happen to all media. Happened to 150 Sony PSP games for example, after selling my last PSP go.... And btw: You only can make infinite amounts of copies of illegal downloads. When legally buying, Amazon for example limits the number of active readers most of the times to 4 units. You could make copies on your PC, but you can't use them "infinitely". But I don't care about that. It's not about downloading tens of thousands of books. I've done that, but it's simply no fun. And you never really know what you get. What can I say? I find shopping extremely entertaining. It's not so much the owning as the buying... And re. "weird": Personally, for example I find it weird to root for a sports team, just because by coincidence it's from my hometown. Or I find it weird, to juggle my 600 DVDs when I much more conveniently can stream even more titles within my home network... Last edited by mgmueller; 05-26-2012 at 03:10 AM. |

Okay, I apologize. I see your point. Its just for me personally, I download kindle books as if they were disposable and if it's a book I want to read again I'll buy the paperback or hardcover. To each his own though.

Once you remove a book from one Kindle the license can be used for another Kindle. |

For maybe 3% of my books the limit was 4. For some there doesn't seem to be any limit at all. You're right: You (again, Amazon rules) can manage your Kindles (apps and actual Kindles) online. You can delete some and immediately replace by new ones. As long as you don't go online, the books even remain on the deactivated units. My old US-only Kindles still hold all the books I had on them back then. But if you go the regular way, the number of units is limited... |
