these blurbs are a bit too weird for me...or maybe it's because of the language employed

A couple have made the Top 100 it seems - at least the Australian version, including the Runyon I picked. So that is cool for Prologue. And the free Gault was in the Top 100 Free.

You didn't get Fell Back? The middle of the Fell trilogy?

I have acquired so much reading material in the past couple of months that I can't get excited about this deal. I bought Intimate Victims by Vin Packer, Killing Cousins and Skuldoggery (who could resist that one?) by Fletcher Flora to try.

I know what you mean. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to grab any of them or not. I used to be a big fan of lines like Hard Case Crime, so these should be something I'm jumping all over, but I'm not.

Today only. Which should mean until Midnight Pacific Time since that's the time zone Amazon is based in.

Well, I just went and bought the lot of these, and have 135 132 more books to read at some point.

I did get 40% into the freebie Gault book and it's interesting enough that I'm willing to pay 99 cents a pop for decent-quality known-reputation backlist pour encourager les autres sales/discount pricing in the future for when Prologue release the planned sci-fi/fantasy pulps.

And frankly, retro-50s Americana is practically like an alien world anyway. I think I need footnotes for some of the slang and references.

I only bought two, although I wanted all of them.

There was no member here who came forth to gift me $100

Don't expect much sympathy from this direction. I just paid $130 USD out of my own pocket for a genreful of stuff I'm not sure I'll even like all that much, given that I vastly prefer sleuthy historical mysteries to crime thrillers and find even police procedurals a bit iffy on the enjoy-o-meter.

But our fluctuating petro-dollar is in a good place now above par and I figure it goes toward the good cause of encouraging decent, low-cost reprints of older stuff which will eventually include some old-school sf/fantasy content.

I'd offer to loan all these to you at some point, but apparently Amazon doesn't allow Canadians to do the Kindle lending thing.

ETA: I'll mention since it was asked up thread that all of these are Mobi under 400kb and the mega-filesizes are probably due to Amazon probably counting new release stuff as combo Mobi+KF8+maybe-source-files now.

I love these old '50s novels, as they seem to harken back to an earlier time. Also, I'm a fan of those original covers.

Anyone have trouble converting and then opening this title, using calibre:

"Start Screaming Murder," by Talmage Powell.

It converts to epub, but will not open.

HISTORY:

It opens in calibre (v0.8.16).

It will NOT open using Sony Reader (current version.)

It WILL open using nook, but immediately closes.
