No, the Kindle doesn't have a GPS chip. I suspect that what's being talking about here is location determined from the the cellular radio in the 3G Kindle, if it's stored at all.

Um.. I have to disagree. I've never ever read the Kindle terms and conditions. Amazon has never made me agree to to the terms and conditions. So as far as I am concerned, since Amazon has never made to agree to them, they don't apply since they don't mind selling me content without having agreed. I've had an account with Amazon long before the Kindle.

Given that there are far more Kindle users around than Kobo users, "KT" should be reserved for the Kindle, IMHO .

You should file a complaint at whatever governing body exists to manage abbreviations...

I have Kobo Touch noted under my Avatar as well though.

Usually software will produce a load of log files and/or data dumps that in the case of a technical support request the developer might ask for you to email or send in some other way to them.

Just because something is logged though does not imply it's also sent. It might be, but equally it might be sending info that isn't logged locally too.

Even if data is logged locally only though, it can be an issue for some depending on what the data is and the length of time it's retained.

For example if your mobile logs every place you've been over the last year (mentioning no names ), even if that info is never sent to an outside party, plenty of people would be (were) unhappy about it been on the phone without their authorisation especially for anything more than a short period of time.

Privacy is becoming a huge topic now, even though in some cases the data logged/sent is needed for services to actually function, consumers (some, but growing in number) are wary that the data is also been used for other purposes (marketing, selling on etc) or companies are logging more than they need to (again usually for ad/marketing reasons).

If anyone has some definitive data on each of the devices I'd be interested in seeing it.

I sorta take for granted that any info being stored and logged about me is being sent and viewed by someone (or computer) for some type of tracking/marketing purpose.

And those cameras on TV's?? Classic 1984. Will not own one.

But the reason Kobo gets to have KT is because the Kobo Touch came out before the Kindle Touch. Oh and since KT belongs to the Kobo Touch, I suggest that you (as a moderator) go fix every post that incorrectly uses KT to mean Kindle Touch.

Sorry, most folks with Kindles see KT and think Kindle Touch. That is simply how people have been discussing it. Most folks have no clue that a K5 is a KT.

Yep, KT = Kindle Touch and KNT = Kindle No Touch.
But I have to agree with JSWoolf, if the Kobo Touch was out before and in general referred to as a KT then they are at the head of the line for the moniker.

Joking apart, it's all a matter of context. "KT" means "Kobo Touch" on the Kobo forum, and "Kindle Touch" on the Amazon forum. It's only really on "neutral ground" such as this particular forum that one perhaps has to take care that the meaning is clear.
