I agree totally. The way they set it up, it's nothing but a free coupon to buy 1 Harry Potter book. Even if they made a 4th front and back for the reader with a HP theme (so they'd have white, red, black and the special HP themed plastic) I think would have been a MUCH better seller.

But that's possibly not even an option the author gave them, it's likely the most she was willing to do was let them use the name for one free book (not that it would be free per her deal with Sony). But if wishes were horses, I'd have much preferred to see a full HP themed reader, matching screenshot for when in sleep mode... I think Sony would have sold a ton of those. I'd even have liked to see all the HP books already loaded on it, that too would be a big selling point.

Sort of. I was one of the ones anxiously drooling over an HP branded reader, case with all the books etc too. I'd have bought it the second it came out. That was all sheer speculation though. The only thing Sony was going to do was sell the black device with the coupon for the free first book.

It was the rest of the hoards that went bananas dreaming of what an HP reader would look like etc. I don't think it was ever in the works. It'd have been nice but....

It's true that JK Rowling hates product tie-ins*, so I admit this is probably what happened. But hey, now there is a entire THEME PARK so that cat is out of the bag!

*I could have sworn that I read at one time that she hates product tie-ins, and products only came out after the movies did, when she had to give up some control (in return for $$$$). But now I can't find anything to back that up. I did find this, though:

I never bought some of the older models because I love having a browser and the price was really steep. I´ll keep this until a color e-ink comes in, seeing Mirasol´s screens maybe that´s because they´ll discontinue, to provide a color reader!

I was at Best Buy this weekend and the Sony ereaders (T1, 350 and cases) have been removed from the ereader section. There was a sign that a new ereader will be taking its spot.

No one knew anything, so I can't help with the rumor part. The only ereaders that are missing from my local best buy section is the Kobo touch and the kindle touch without ads. I was told Amazon wouldn't let them sell the kindle without ads...I don't know whether this is true or not its just what an employee told me. Amazon has its own section at the other end of the display anyway.

I really doubt if either of them are the new ereader.
