The base price may be higher than the Kindle Touch, but the Kindle Touch without offers is exactly the same price as this Nook. Then you have to add $59.99 to get a lighted cover for the Kindle, versus $29.95 for a regular cover for the Nook.

Plus the Nook has both touch and page turn buttons as well as Micro SD expandability. I'm not saying this thing beats the Kindle by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think the thing is overpriced in comparison.

Agreed, the Nook looks fantastic. I'll buy the Kindle with this in a heartbeat.

Agreed. I don't think that $139 for a Nook with a built in light is a bad price at all.

I was just thinking of the price vs. the regular Nook STR. I'd like to see if this light is worth the extra $40, unless there are other value-adds this thing has over the STR.

Any videos or reviews of this yet? I'd like to see impressions first of how good the screen looks in the dark.

Amazon is not "deliberately crippling" the Fire. The Fire is a cloud-content devicenot a storage device. It was never intended to store one's library as on an eink Kindle. It's as simple as that.

The e-ink kindles have lesser on-board storage than the Fire, and they have collections. Removal/withholding of a simple feature to make a push towards cloud storage is the very definition of deliberate crippling.

Yes but the eink Kindles are single-function devices and do not necessarily require more storage. The Fire, OTOH, is not a single-function device and certainly not a dedicated reader. Again -- it was developed and marketed as a cloud-content device. We have different viewpoints and I will agree to disagree.
