I did the same thing. And now use the Cybook card for other purposes (and it does work perfectly there).

Perhaps I was lucky because the card has worked perfectly ever since.

I think you were lucky, because I tried this with no luck. FAT or FAT32, folders or not; nothing works. The card is a Sandisk 256 MB SD card.
