It's an HBO series.
I had been waiting for him to finish the series before starting to read it, but the TV series inspired me to start reading them.
It's good but becomes rather soap operaish after awhile. Not in the sense of romances and affairs, but as a seemingly never-ending series of crises with no resolution of the main plot.

Well, to be fair, I think it shows more movement and character development than Wheel of Time ever did!
