3D programs are getting better all the time though they aren't quite up to photo realistic quite yet. They still seem too perfect I think is the problem. Real skin has imperfections and real faces aren't totally symmetrical but a lot of 3d characters are which leaves them short of looking quite right. And with all new things there is some resistance to acceptance. Not everyone accepts ebooks, and not everyone accepted TV when it came on the scene. 3D is no different. To each their own I say.

My characters are all fantasy folks, mostly of the elven persusion.
However, even though I don't currently use them, I have noticed that many vendors are providing skin textures for figures like Victoria and Michael which are quite realistic, having both flaws and asymmetry. Check out some of Syyd Raven's stuff at runtimedna. And if you want mesh asymmetry, it's easy to do in Poser's face room. |

Even if you don't care for the look of the human figures, there are props for object covers or building covers, and toon characters and environments as well. There's no reason you can't mix stock photos, textures, vectors, and 3D. It's just one more tool to use. When I got rights back on some of my backlist titles, I offered them for sale on my site -- this was back in early 2007, before there was a Kindle, a Nook, or even a Smashwords. I had to acquire/purchase and install conversion utilities for every format I offered. At that time, it was PDF, LIT, PRC, and PDB. Some conversions went well, others not. Creating a TOC could be frustrating. I had to buy digital store software to auto deliver the ebooks because PayPal's cart and Buy Now buttons didn't protect the download link -- and I really didn't want to manually email every link for every ebook I sold. Sometimes Paypal would make changes and break my store. I had to make my own covers; there weren't a lot of people offering services for ebook covers like there is now. I could still buy stock photos from istockphoto.com at prices my budget could easily handle, because Getty Images hadn't bought it yet. All this pretty much from scratch, because there weren't many authors self-publishing their backlist titles as ebooks and there wasn't anyone I knew who could offer advice or suggestions. I'm so glad all this is easier to do now and that so many people are willing to offer their help or expertise. I'd be happy to help anyone who uses DAZ Studio, wherever I can. |

Yea, I can seen the potential for the tool, but I can not use my work computer for "commercial" use so I'll have to wait till I can upgrade my home machine to handle it. Smooth and fast on my quad core i7 with SSD at work though

There are a lot of "realistic" elf morphs. The ones I use (Nursoda's characters) are not morphs, they are complete figures. I fell in love with them, and they actually inspired me to write my stories!

I linked to the store, but here's a link to only the free products:
http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/all...1,cat_1068_382 Shopping requires patience today. The store is really, really slow, which is probably due to lots of people downloading large files. |

The giveaway is going through the end of the month, so just keep trying every day or so, and you should get in eventually.
