BC online library only lets you have five books checked out at a time, and five on hold.

My Overdrive library allows only 3 checkouts and 3 on hold; unlimited wishlist. Since there are less than 700 fiction titles in the catalog and 1/3 of those are for children, I rarely can find anything I want to read anyway.

I qualify to join 2 overdrive libraries. Maryland digital consortium allows 4 simultaneous checkouts for up to 14 days. DC allows 10 simultaneous checkouts for up to 21 days. In both systems you can return epub/pdf/kindle books early but Disney Digital Books and audiobooks cannot be returned early.

I don't know the max holds but I've never come close to hitting that.

But at least it lets you check them out for a minimum of 7 days, up to a maximum of 21 days. I've set my default to 7 days.

Their latest purchase appears to have been a BUNCH of westerns. Unfortunately, not my taste.

The Feng Sui books are equally crap.

I feel fortunate. Thanks to local law I qualify for a library card anywhere in the state, and I'm up to six locally plus Singapore. When I run up against the ceiling on one, I switch to another. :-)

Yep, was surprised by the low hold rate. Then again, I'm not a particularly fast or dedicated reader. I realized 4 is actually a good number for me. I use the wish list to help me remember what I want to read. As a Montgomery county resident, I'm eligible for the DC and Arlington County libraries. DC has a 10 item checkout max and I haven't even used Arlington yet. I have plenty to read from DC and MC.

Same here. I had been using DC only for about a year, when I realized that MC had added a lot to its holdings since I'd last been there, including some books I'd been wanting to read that DC didn't have.

I am new to all this, got my first e-reader this Christmas. I hoped to use my local library which is promoting e-books. I found out that the selection is very limited. I also have a Phoenix AZ library card, while the selection is better, is still is not great.

I guess I will have to be patient, but my question is to those more knowledgeable are the libraries increasing their commitment to e-books in general? I just saw a study on CNN that 19% of adults have e-readers. While many will by their content, I would think demand at the libraries must be growing?
