A bento belt would work just as well and be nicer looking, to downright cute if you want to go there. You can get them in Asian specialty stores or online - ichiban kan now ships to the US (and has shipped internationally for a while) and their belts are $1 before shipping: http://www.ichibankanusa.com/s.nl?sc...y=&search=belt

(Note: the first one is from the above store, the other one is from a blog and the woman bought it locally, so I can't help you there, but search around for bento belt or band and you'll find some).

I got one from Amazon. It's adequate for what I need - I throw it in a bike bag and cram in my lunch, camera, phone, maybe some clothes and sometimes other stuff, then ride 11 miles to work and 11 back, every day. It's enough protection. To get an idea of what it is, think oversized Altoids tin with some thin padding. I probably could have found something cheaper but my time is worth something.

I just ordered the one from Amazon. Carrying around the Sony has been really nerve-wracking for me, because of all the stories about how fragile the screens are. Not to mention how easily chipped the metal can be, at least on the blue 505's. (I have a silver, although now I wish I had a blue. Oh well!)

I like the stock cover, I just wish the one paired with the silver wasn't such a yucky brown. A deep mahogany/burgundy brown would have been fine. But this really does remind me of cheap vinyl couches. If only it was dark blue like the one paired with the blue (I've never actually seen it, but I've heard it's dark blue). Whoever chose the brown really has a difference aesthetic sense from my own.

Just wanted to report back that I got the case from Amazon and like it a lot. It is pretty much what I needed. Certainly not fancy but will put my mind at ease while carrying the Reader around.

You know, something tells me that in those stories, the people are grossly underestimating the abuse that they've subjected their hardware to.

Last month, I was on a plane flight when my seatmate asked about the Reader. I was showing off all the features, and as I was waving my arms to show how convenient it is, the Reader popped out of its plastic clips, flew up to head-height, and pinwheeled up the aisle. It bounced on at least three corners and came to rest face-down. The top insert came a little loose, so the power switch didn't operate until I pushed it back down, but otherwise the reader was perfect.

I suspect that a lot more of these incidents are a result of point-force application perpendicular to the screen
