post here if you got a Kindle Fire for Christmas

I got a Kindle for Christmas/my birthday too (got it early, so I've had it since Thanksgiving!). My first e-reader was an ebookwise, and I also have a first-generation Kindle and a Nook. I got the Nook to borrow library books and I never use it, especially now that the Kindle has library lending.

So far I love the Fire and although there are a few "quirks" I am very happy.

the einks will always be a better reader only device
if you get the alternate readers like Adilko or Mantano you can change the settings more than the built in kindle reader to make it more like an einik experience with the background color and font and low brightness but you will still have the glare on the screen that the einks dont have so keep the kindle if you really do a lot of reading and the fire for everything else (plus some reading in a pinch)

I added a antiglare screen protector it got rid of all the glare issues unless I am using a black screen.

I have had a Kindle DX for a long time. For Christmas, my wife surprised me with a Kindle Fire. Love it so far.

but the movies and apps wont look as beautiful now the screen saver on.

I got one for Christmas from my hubby, and gave him my old Kindle. I feel bad because I've tried to love it, and I wanted one for a while, but I don't love it. I don't even like it. I want my old kindle back. I'm having trouble importing all my old books, which was never the issue on my old kindle. It's so much heavier than my old, which I expected, but I've discovered it's more important than I thought it would be to me. And I'm worried how hard it'll be to read out in the sun. I'm wondering if I made a big mistake and I should just return it!

It will be very difficult to read in the sun. The Fire is NOT a replacement for the eink Kindles but as an additon for those that have one already or opening new doors for those that dont have a Kindle or tablet. Its the best of both worlds in some ways but yes its very different. Many folks can help you figure our your ebooks issue Im sure though.

I notice no difference with a screen protector only that it isn't as shiny as is was without one.

Which screen protector did you get? I still need to get one myself, and one that cuts down the reflectiveness would be perfect.

Any Anti-Glare screen protector for the Fire will do. I have a crappy one at the moment but it works for that purpose.
