Appears to be a lot more responsive. Love the new dictionary feature!!
No problem with sleep or wireless, so far this is a significant improvement
over the previous version, thank you.
If the kobo dev is reading, can you please take a look at fixing the useability
of the 'p' and '0' keys! It can take up to 3 presses at times for them to register.

Added: those keys are very close to the right edge of the screen, so close that
they don't work as consistenly as all the others.

Thanks again,
W.

That might be related to your particular screen. I know on mine the top right hand corner is less sensitive and requires a lot of presses to bring up annotations in the reader.

I am so pleased with this update.

I like the new features in the library. Sepia is something I love on the Kindle app and I am sooo happy the Kobo app has it now. Some of my books did not have the title on the cover. That is fixed now.

The update has fixed the problem I was having with Youtube in the Dolphin browser. It would freeze up and not play, works perfect now.

I didn't have the sleep-of-death problem so I cannot comment on that.

Hi everyone,

There's one change we forgot to mention in James' release notes.

The power button now requires to be held for 2.5s - or until the LED lights up - before your Vox can be powered on. We made this change to prevent accidental powering on when the device is in transit.

This may be the cause for some frustrations in this thread.

Best,
Jason

Something weird with the battery reading happend to me also. I never had issues with my battery before this update. I just installed the latest update. While i was doing that i had it plugged into the wall charging. It was at 60% when the firmware part of the update came up. Once it restarted it was at full. I knew this was wrong so i restarted it. When it came back up it was at 80%. I don't believe that is right either since the firmware update part only took a few minutes. I hope this doesn't cause my battery reading to be off by 20% now, especially since i had no issues before this upgrade.

I'm going to try to let the battery drain and see if that gives its butt a solid kick. In the meantime, I've signed out of accounts in case I do have to exchange it. I'm going to contact the vendor and see if they'll exchange it. We're leaving for an extended trip in 3 weeks and I want this settled before we go.

I'll be calling the vendor we bought it from tomorrow and see if they will give me a new one. We're going to the U.S. for a few weeks and I had been hoping to have a Vox with me for the trip.

This ain't doing my recovery any good, I shouldn't be up fussing with this right now. I just wanted to read while recovering from my surgery...

Sorry, James, but I'm thoroughly not impressed with this. I think if I ever do get this thing resurrected, I'll be ignoring future updates.
I'm with you, Kat. I just want to use the Vox, not spend my time trying to get it to work. I did a factory reset tonight, as I was planning on returning the Vox tomorrow - I've had enough. I ran through the start up sequence again just to make sure none of my files or accounts were still there (they were!). Noticing there had been a new update, I put the Vox to sleep to see if that problem had been fixed. It had not; in fact, it was worse. A single press of the power button woke the Vox up, but the power on slider was unresponsive. I had to do a 30 second button push to get it to power on. The battery meter was showing about 25 percent, then went to critical in a matter of seconds.

I am glad that some of your here are having good experiences with the Vox. I am not, and have not, since I purchased it one month ago. So, I will be returning it tomorrow.

Kat, I hope you are feeling better!

I did find a way to do a factory reset, by taking the back cover off and pressing THAT button and the volume up button simultaneously. However, because the cussed thing still is reading my battery power at zero, it won't do the factory reset.

So basically this update has totally ruined my Vox...

As I said, I am trying to decide between forcing a total and true battery drain and then try to recharge it or if I attempt to erase all my data on here now while there is still power to the thing and write it off as a lost cause.

So, to the Kobo developers: My power on/off button does not work at all because of your firmware update. Oh, and the buttons at the bottom no longer light up either. They work, but they don't light up.

These items functioned correctly before your firmware update.

This had looked like a nice product with great potential and I was enjoying it--yesterday. I was even willing to be patient with the issues it was having because it did mostly work for what I wanted it to do. I had it to a place where I could live with it, anyway. Now the product developers have taken something that was working and rendered it nonfunctional and probably unfixable as well.

I'm going to be making some decisions here. This was a birthday present, but I want it working or I want a refund and I will decide if I care to continue with this company or not.

Tonight I'm going to make sure the contents of my Kobo library are safely on the hard drive of my laptop so I can make sure all the titles are on my reliable Sony PRS 650. I had better make sure my Kindle titles are sync'ed onto the laptop as well.

Device lockup after new update!

It appears that I posted a little too quickly.

Previous to the new update the devices Wi-Fi Sleep Policy was set to 'Never' to prevent the device going into a state that required a reboot.

Within the last hour I noticed this and changed it to 'When screen turns off' as a test.
After allowing the screen to turn off the device completely locked and required rebooting by holding in the power key for 10 seconds.
This happens ONLY when the wi-fi shuts off with the screen.

So we are back to square one with regard to lockup issue.

W.

Note: Once the device was restarted after the manual reboot I had to manually restart the wireless connection, it didn't happen automatically.

Brightness

I like the sepia option in the reader, but it looks like adding it has bumped up the brightness at the lower end. I always read at the lowest brightness at night with no light on and even before this update I could have used less brightness at the minimum. (I find the "night mode" somewhat annoying.) Now, even with the brightness slider all the way down, I can use the screen as a flashlight! Anybody else notice this?

Can't access Kobo library via a computer, nor my purchase history. I just get an "500 internal server error" message.

Guys, I could do cartwheels right now, except I shouldn't, I already way overdid it and I'll be up half the night as it is...As a last ditch effort, I went to apps and hit the update firmware icon. Got the update firmware screen, tapped on the blue blue button. After a couple of moments, the vox shut itself off and restarted. My 3 bottom buttons are lit up again and my battery status indicator is working. Just going to check out other functions now.

Great news, Kat! Good luck - I hope this fixes all the problems! I know this type of thing can be very frustrating! I am holding off using my Vox for another day or two till I get more time to get 'ready' for the update! I always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst!
