Me? No, I don't believe that's what will happen, however you asked us how authors could be paid in a world where everyone believes they have a right to free media. I just provided an answer that accepts your given requirements.

Gross means that total amount taken in by tickets sales and any other income (like T-shirt and such sales). Out of that you pay for the venues. You pay for the roadies. You pay for the set (stage). You pay equipment (rental or amortization). You pay for pyro technics. You pay to transport the band, the toadies, the equipment. The ticket sellers also get a cut. The venue fees also include things like electricity used and cleanup/repair afterwards. And there are the other costs, like lodging and food. And the tour organizers and producers. And promotion. And marketing. And you have to pay for all the stuff you sell (like the tour T-shirts). And after all that, the band actually makes some money. I have friends in the music business, they always say, you tour to sell records. You do not tour to make money. |

Are you kidding me? I barely have time to read current threads in their entirety. You expect people to go back and read every post ever sent to MobileRead (how else will they know if it was important or not, since there is so much topic drift here; like right now
![]() Changing one's mind just by reading others' arguments is hard because we tend to gloss over points that don't fit in with our own viewpoints. Explaining our viewpoints so that others would also be convinced is where the real learning takes place. Edit: Reading the quoted comment again, I don't see why I thought reading _all_ previous comments was indicated. In fact, I agree that reading some earlier comments is very useful. Sorry ApK, I shouldn't have gotten so preachy. I'll leave my earlier remarks as proof that this glossing over things that we read is something I certainly do. It's funny that I was right while being wrong. Last edited by rkomar; 12-22-2011 at 03:40 AM. |
