A band of cutthroats.
And a monster of legend.

Battle rusty from the war infirmaries, a company of Sujins, the heavy infantry of Sunja, march north. They guard a mysterious koch destined for another land. Whipped by the murderous Rusk the Two Knife and led by the enigmatic Bloor, the only cavalier to survive the Field of Skulls, they will march into the unknown, and arrive at the teeth of hell.

And only one man will possess the skills to bring the survivors back."

"Strength. Honor. Death. Once every year, in the city of Sunja, gladiators meet within the arena known as Sunja`s Pit. Men such as Baylus, Goll, and Halm enter for the lure of fortune. Others enter for the fame. And some simply for the fight. The games continue for days, until a champion is finally crowned. Or all who are involved perish. This is blood sport at its finest. At its worst. At its longest. 131 Days."

I was highly impressed by both of these.

Well [expletive removed by user].

I was all set to whip out my CC and buy a new book...but he's apparently an Amazon only person. Oh well.

I personally often find negative reviews to be really helpful. Sometimes good reviews are dumped on a site by an author. But negative reviews? Well, look at what people complain about. I have seen people give bad reviews of books for all sorts of stupid reasons (pricing? the politics of the author, they don't like the vendor). If none of the reviews actually seem to be about the quality of the story it is a book I will flag for a more careful look, and then maybe try to read an excerpt.

i've been pretty lucky with indie authors, i've yet to buy any crap. there were 1 or 2 who were a bit weak but nothing i've thrown down in disgust or laughed at. frankly i've been left cold by far, far more agency published books.
