I have a Garmin GPS unit which has discharged to zero percent many times and the battery still works fine after 2 years.
This death of a Kindle Fire simply had a bad battery from the get go. However, just to be sure I'm charging all my units of all types now with Lithium batteries if they go under 30%. Since I had read that 500 charges are the limit of all Lithium batteries then too frequent charging will reduce the time the battery lasts. Since Amazon has their charge warning at 15%, I'm sure that is sufficient as well. Charging between 15% and 30% is probably the correct balance. |

I'd be surprised if any name-brand device let you actually discharge to literal zero. People are much more likely to shorten the battery life by keeping it pinned at 100% all the time than by fully discharging. |

![]() Interesting if you find that to be the case..... Maybe there are (certain?) apps getting "stuck" and running down people's batteries. |

And mine has been fine other than that one 'lock up' a few days ago which didn't seem to be battery oriented...

Well, yeah, it was a strange sequence that brought mine back. Just holding the button down didn't matter, I plugged it in to its charger and it didn't matter, I plugged in in to my desktop and it didn't matter, then I plugged it in to the Kindle2 charger (using the same desktop/amazon) microusb cable and it came on with out any reset(holding the button), it went through the power up sequence as if it had been turned off. But after it came back the batter was at near full charge as it should have been.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware of that, but it makes sense. Thank you for that info. I did let mine get to the point of automatic shutdown a couple of times and worried a bit about it, but going by that it seems like it should be fine.

My Samsung Galaxy S smartphone signals that it needs to be recharged at 15% then if I don't plug it in at 10% and again at a number I don't remember because I let that happen only once.
My Kindle got down to 9% today on a test. It shut down and would not let me restart at first (several tries), but being persistent I tried a shut-down by holding in the power button. When I released it it displayed the "Do you want to shut down?" message and I clicked No (or whatever equivalent choice) and it restarted and that's when I discovered that the battery was at 9%. Now, this was with 6.2. I have 6.2.1 now. Maybe this strange low battery behavior is one of the things they fixed. I've found a couple of improvements in 6.2.1. Clicking a back or forward button works without a lot of multiple taps which would sometimes take be way too far back and it was a real PITA getting back to where I was. I cleaned up my carousel by deleting icons that just cluttered up the screen. I used to have a problem with the keyboard "recognizing" my finger when it was a short distance above a key; based on limited testing that has been fixed. Has anyone located a list of the fixes/features in 6.2.1? wcsungod Last edited by wcsungod; 12-22-2011 at 11:54 PM. |
