What's the price got to with the fact that nobody as yet knows how effective the upgrade is????

It took two or three days, until my reader showed the first bugs when I bought it (missing pages, flipping two pages over instead of one, ...) so it is a little early to tell, but it is a pleasure to read without any bugs again
On the other hand, the bugs went away for a time when I restarted my reader, so that was no really big deal for me...

Long speech, short on content, meaning: It works right now, but only time will tell

New firmware is now on the US site for download (for those who want to avoid using the Reader software and aren't sure if the UK version is the same).

I wish I had known I could install it without going through the Reader for PC. It did the autosync and messed up my entire library.

Sorry to hear Reader for PC messed up your library :-(

FWIW, the direct download only showed up on the US site this morning (it wasn't there when I checked last night).

The Reader software has a bug that if it is set to "sync nothing" it forgets and starts to "sync all" when you connect via USB. You have to pay attention and be quick to hit the cancel button when the sync action starts. It's a good thing that now they have a download link on the website support page so you don't need the Reader software.

Unfortunately this firmware update didn't enable more wireless features that the T1 is missing. You still can't setup auto-deliveries of newspaper and magazine subscriptions to the T1. Once they enable these features, then firmware updates should be over-the-air like the 950 model.

It's not even just that Bookworm Girl. I had only one collection set to sync - Sony Documentation which had the user guide in it. I thought I was being smart in avoiding the nothing sync and made 1 collection to sync. It started the auto sync and saw hundreds of books on the reader but it was set to sync only the one collection so it bleeping deleted everything else on the silly thing.

OMG I was SO mad!!

I will not make that mistake again if there's a future update & I do hope that the next person who manually organizes their books learns from my grief & avoids making it themself.

I do feel bad for you! I had that happen too (thankfully before I had very many books loaded to the T1 and was still experimenting with the software). It is frustrating. I was thinking of maybe syncing something like pictures or audio files. That way it won't reset as "sync all" and it won't mess up my books.

I was nearly at the end of my patience with the touch screen freezes on my T1. It froze at least 3 times on Thursday night, and I wanted to throw it across the room! So far so good since the update. Keeping my fingers crossed that it has permanently fixed the problem. I was able to finish the last 50 pages of my book with no more freezes. The real test will be when I find some time this weekend to read a newspaper subscription.

Yeah I hear ya!! I wanted to chuck it yesterday too except I didn't want to ruin the new skin I just put on it. I wasted a whole day on the dum thing. Save yourself the headache, don't even connect it when you have the software on the computer open. It just auto syncs period. And the auto sync will make the device the same as the computer which means deleting everything else on the device except what it's supposed to sync with. Funny enough though it left my collections intact. No books in them, but it didn't delete the collections I made manually on the device.

The sad thing is that after I formatted the device from the hell I went through the first time, I had no issues with the device. None. It worked perfectly. After doing the update through the software and having to install and re-sort all my flipping books I started getting the shut down error message again. hmm.... I'm hoping it was just while I was sorting. I still have my 350 so I had to go to it to get bookmarks on books in progress. I have too many on the go & forgot where I was with them.

I'll tell ya though, between this and some guy trying to scam me on eBay I'm going to get into drunk knitting today!! LOL At least if I F it up, I'll know why and have no one else to blame. LOL I have Christmas gifts to make and I'm quickly running out of time. Yesterday was a total waste. I think I need to make myself a hat. I'm going bald from pulling all my hair out!! LOL

Yes, it can be set to not sync anything, but there is a bug that doesn't recognize that setting the next time you connect via USB. It defaults back to sync all and you have to quickly press the cancel button. No, there is not really manual transfer with the new software like there is with Reader Library. Manual transfer only works from the T1 to the Reader software. Not from your library in Reader software to the T1. I ended up using drag-and-drop to transfer all of my books to my T1 and then creating collections on the device. I also use DropBox as well as wireless downloads from websites and my library.

Of course, using this method I can't transfer notes, last page read, bookmarks, etc on my T1 back to the Sony software and share that info with my other Sony ereaders. You will be able to do this when (if) Sony enables the wireless capability on the T1 to sync wirelessly with the Reader software like the 950 model currently does. They need another firmware update to enable any device wireless syncing.

I had Reader Library setup to sync everything among my devices. It was smooth and so nice. The new software is a disappointment. I never expected Sony to take a step backwards. For example, I think that the latest versions of Kindle for PC/Mac with collection syncing across devices is now better than the new Reader system. I didn't think that compared to the old Reader Library system. If you didn't already use the Reader Library software and have a Kindle too, then maybe the new software would be ok for you.

I guess I'm so disappointed and this issue is so annoying to me because the potential is there to work well but it's been poorly executed. End of rant.
