The iPhone has, as I understand it, a 320x480 screen (ie half VGA). That puts it right in the middle of the range of Pocket PC phones, which generally have either quarter VGA (320x240) or full VGA (640x480) screens.

As I say, I haven't yet had the opportunity to see an iPhone; I believe they are being launched in the UK sometime this month, but I am put off by their current closed architecture. I believe that Apple have announced the future availability of an SDK for them, so doubtless that will change in the future, but as things stand, it's an essential feature for me personally to be able to install apps like bookreaders on my phone, since I use it at great deal for casual reading.

For internet in my pocket I am thinking about a Nokia N810. The touchscreen is 800x480 and the architecture is open (Linux based). And it has keyboard. The Openmoko phone Neo 1973 also looks interesting with its VGA touch screen.

Seriously, I want one, too. I'm hoping that when my car is finally ready to be put to pasture... say, 5 or more years from now... that I can pick up one of those Ventures!

I guess I'd just need the ejector seat with that red button hidden in the gear shifter.

Well, since there aren't too many Autobahns around the Washington, DC area, all that car (not to mention the price) is wasted on me. Give me a Hyundai Tiburon with cruise control, and I'm good.

Oh, wait... I already got one. Cool!

Cruise control around D.C.? What, do you drive on your own private roads or is this some type of hovercraft that cruises above the congestion below? Or are you cruising at, say, 15 mph?

Sorry... I don't drive to work! Hells, no! I take public trans, like any sane person does! (Besides, the Venture One isn't available to me yet... )

But when I do drive the highways in evenings and on weekends, I can often put on the CC and cruise in peace. (Now, if I could only stop the wife from turning down the volume on my jazz station... )

Not me. I love to read your posts that are filled with your sickening, degenerate raves about cheese.

Shhhhh your not supposet to say that!!!!

haha..

as for the iphone browser not impressed. It is good. but my Acer n311 is just as fast frowsing and has a 640 x 480.. and i find it better for browsing and reading Ebooks. But then again that is the best size for reading ebooks IMO. However, I wish all of you Sony and Cybook owners the best, I just wish there were a mini-eink reader about the size of a pocket pc.

Steve thank you for including a link to the particular invention of the year called the Espresso Book Machine. Wow that is absolutely the dumbest anti-invention of the year, in so many ways that subscribers to a mobile reader forum already know about. I stopped my TIME subscription 10-15 years ago, when the former editor of People took over.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny when I saw it, too. Great technology, about 20 years too late.
