Where will it be next year? Not a clue. But I''m sure enjoying the ride.

Let's face it if ten years ago - heck even just 5 years ago - someone would've told me I'd own a device which I could hold in my hand and which would weigh less than the thick heavy novels I was at that time reading which I would allow me to be able to carry around literally thousands of books at the same time I wouldn't have believed them.

That's not counting all the rest of the things I can do with my Vox like web browsing and playing games. And all at a fraction of the price I paid for both my first computer and the laptop that I replaced it with.

From Star Trek, little data cards that Spock put in his analyzer and you can dictate to a computer. Ohura's ear piece although if you are trying to pick out a weak signal over-the-ears headphones are best.

But Bone's tricorder, warp drive and transporter aren't here. Yet.

Actually I think the tricorder is univeristy of Alberta working on something similiar to it. at least a multifunction unit

First of all, the choices in the poll are a bit stupid. If someone doesn't hate their Vox, they'd have to choose #1.

Quote:
1. Absoulutely its the future.
2. Not any where new enough to warrant its existance.
3. Not going to go out and buy it anytime soon
4. Why did Kobo go out and in less then a year offer us another reader?
5. Still holding out for the Soft IceCream Feature
Be that as it may, I don't have any serious complaints with mine after just over a week. My electronic gadgets include a desktop PC, TV and a basic cellphone (not a smartphone entertainment centre). I was going to purchase an eReader when I received the Vox as a birthday present. I don't use it much for web browsing or email because my desktop PC is much better suited for that, but it is handy for purchasing or borrowing books on-line. Never having used a basic Kobo reader, I can't compare, but I believe the reader in the Vox is pretty bare-bones compared to the regular Kobo. I wish it had as many, if not more, features. I could also do without all the social media stuff on it. I'm following the Vox subforum and see there are bugs, which is to be expected with something this new. They crippled my experience so far and hopefully will get fixed soon.

battery life

I just got my new Kobo Vox and the battery does not last more than one day. I have tried turning off the Wi-Fi to lessen the battery use when reading, but it still is dead the next morning when I go to use it. Is this normal? I am used to reading on my IPod touch and the battery lasts a few days at least.

I've seldom gone more than a day without charging the battery on the Vox. I'd call it normal, but I guess it depends om how much you use it. It's a power hog, just like all tablets and the new smartphones if used continually. I usually charge it if it's below half, just in case I use it later away from where my charger is plugged it. That's one beef with the Vox charging system, that you need their charger if you want one that works and shows the charge level.

I've been enjoying my new kobo vox for its main purpose ... an ereader. I also like having the ability to easily check on websites. I am disappointed I can't get the full level apps that this device could use. I am currently reading forums from people who have apparently successfully rooted their devices for access to more google apps. Having the ability to add an external keyboard would also be interesting to increase its functionality as a cheaper tablet. I don't work for RIM, so I couldn't get in on the RIM Playbook firesale prior to xmas, and for the amount they were going for I am wondering if Santa would have done better getting this as a tablet.
