Uh, only because swapping batteries has become impossible on some devices. When I lived in Asia, and mobile phones were miles ahead of the U.S., at least in consumer acceptance (years before the iPhone), batteries were easily swappable and most phones came with an extra. My *mom* would just, you know, press down on the button that makes the battery pop out (the back of the phone), put in the new one, on the go. It was very common to do so, and not only because batteries didn't last as long back then. It's nice to be able to charge a spare and have it.
and my mom can't even use the computer!
but Apple did something right, anyways. I remember when mp3 players in Korea got 40-50 hours of battery life, had radio, voice recording, and yet the ipod trumped it all, with 10 hours of battery life. Go figure.
