Sure, but I can load up an SD card and not have to worry about downloading with the device.

Nook Tablet has Netflix and Hulu+ so video is a VERY big strong point for it. But as for me, I travel weekly for work so I would get most of my use out of it on the road, etc.

But to be honest with you? I would prefer a 9 or 10 inches Kindle Fire. For a tablet which supposes to run movies or let you read full color magazines, I believe a bigger screen is a must, at least in my opinion. For that reason, I am planning to avoid the Kindle Fire altogether (for now). On the fence for a Kindle 3G touch though, need to feel it in my hands before getting rid of my beloved Kindle 3G keyboard.
I'm not planning on getting the Nook Tablet either, not for now anyway. But in the end, they are both very nice devices, I prefer the Nook Tablet myself.

The form factor is the same as the Nook Color with just the minor weight change. Should be a similar experience.

Actually it's fairly convenient and easy to convert DVDs to a file that can be loaded onto an ipad or NookColor. They use up a lot of space, though, thus the need for an SD card and the limitation of the Fire. The main advantage is places where wifi isn't offered, like on a bus or plane.

The Kindle keyboard might be worth holding onto if you want to use the free 3G for checking email somewhere without wifi too. The Touch 3G won't offer free web browsing, so you're paying a premium just for the ability to download books without a wifi signal, and you can't download library books over 3G. You also pay a slight weight and battery life premium for 3G, and book shopping is so much easier on a computer, so I don't see the appeal of the 3G Touch.

Has anyone mentioned that this is just an internal hardware upgrade. Just like the iPhone 4s which everyone made such a big stink about.

Yes, it is. Per year, no monthly!

I'm Amazon's primer member myself and that's exactly what I paid. Actually, a bit less, because some kind of promotion that I don't remember.

It paid itself already with several paper books I ordered and other items; the shipping was free!

In my opinion, is an awesome deal. Not an Amazon fan boy, I do have Netflix too and use iPad2, but is a good value for your money.

Lol, my brother's on a first name basis with the UPS guy due to Amazon Prime. There's practically a delivery at our place everyday.

So what? Just because the case didn't change doesn't mean the upgrades didn't bring anything of value. I rather like the upgraded specs on the iPhone 4S. The shorter battery life and the fact that iOS5 breaks Stanza compatibility, not so much. The same comments were made regarding the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but imho, aside from retina display, going from 3G to 3GS is a much bigger upgrade compared to going from 3GS to 4. The iPhone 3G was unbearably slow.

The faster CPU on the Nook Tablet would certainly help with more processor intensive apps - assuming the device gets rooted of course. The slightly lighter weight and longer battery life are also appreciated.

I recently upgraded an Intel Atom 330-based Mini-ITX nettop to Intel Sandy Bridge Celeron G530 (replacing only the motherboard/CPU/RAM). From the outside, it still looks the same. However, when you start using it, you'll notice that the Sandy Bridge build is definitely snappier and more responsive.

So I am at the Android Developer Conference this week (AnDevCon II) and Barnes & Noble has a booth in the exhibition hall. When I stopped by yesterday, all they had on display was the NC. I stopped by again this afternoon between classes, and what do you know..they had a couple of Nook Tablets we could mess around with.

Random thoughts after playing around with it for 10 minutes, and talking to one of the technical reps:
1) I thought there was notably less glare than the NC. I stood under a bright light in the exhibit hall, and while there was glare, I could still read pretty well. I even tried to position the screen for maximum glare and thought the screen was still readable.
2) While it might be just 2 ounces lighter than the NC, it is noticeable.
3) Other than the glare reduction (i believe the rep told me there is an anti-glare layer between the glass and the screen itself)..the screen is exactly the same as the NC
4) Device seemed pretty responsive. No noticeable slow downs when moving between screens, flipping pages, etc. Didn't play any games or video.
5) NICE: the Nook Tablet is still bootable from SD. The rep said that while they think only 3% of sales of the NC go to people who want to root it, they are still sales they wouldnt otherwise have. And they aren't interested in removing the ability to root for those who want to do that. I was pleasantly surprised how ok they are with rooting. Plus, he said they have to keep the boot from SD option. When someone brings a messed up device into a B&N store, they can wipe the device clean and restore it to its original condition by booting the system from an SD card (by using the OS on the card to restore the system on the device).
6) the android version is 2.3.3
7) the UI of the device is pretty nice. I haven't played with my NC on the stock B&N OS though (i run CM7), so I'm unsure how different the UI is between the NC and Nook Tablet.

Overall, felt like a nice 7 inch device. Didn't feel much different than the NC, but I am guessing the spec bumps will make it a noticeable upgrade if you use it for things other than just reading.

Sounds good. I wasnt in the market for a midrange tablet but if I had to choose I would go with the Nook Tablet in a heartbeat. Sounds much better than the kindle fire.

Thanks for this info. Here's hoping for an easy root and CM9 - should run smoothly on this hardware.
