What is your time worth?

I can't imagine how it could be worth it to scan and convert pbooks to ebooks.

I'm more than willing to pay a reasonable price for an ebook that I own in paper form because I wish to re-read it at some point.

Sounds highly familiar, and I have been successfully trying not to enter local thrift shop here for a while now. Just last Saturday I broke down (it's all my sons fault -- he wanted to go in to see the 'Fischli' they have in a big aquarium there). I couldn't help leaving the shop with 11 books -sigh-.

(All of some Forgotten Realm series -- normally not quite worth their price I think, but at ~50cts each it's another story. Easy reading for when I am tired.)

I feel for you all - I'm in the same situation - though I HAVE read all my Pbooks except 5 (the newest ones) and I haven't bought any pbooks lately except my collection of Overlook Press Wodehouse as it's published.
I really, Really need to sort through my 18 bookcases and get rid of a whole lot. And those are just the good ones. I always did trade in any books I didn't think were worth reading again. My husband only has 5 bookcases worth. I could get down to that, maybe, - um, well, maybe not.

The Kindles have about 3000 books on them total (900 on the 'old favorite authors and science' kindle and 1200 or so on the 'not read yet authors' kindle), but quite a lot are free guten-books or Baen books or the like.

You are indeed all welcome there. It has now been 26 days since I last bought an ebook. My TBR folder is below 400 for the first time since February or so.

With mutual support, we can refrain from buying ebooks before we need them, and so save ourselves lots of money.

(Because, of course, we add them to a wishlist and wait for a special offer!)

At my current reading rate, I have about 2.5 years of ebooks on hand. There should be lots of special offers and deals on ebooks on my wish list in that time.
I broke out in a cold sweat of withdrawal just reading that. I mean sure, you have 400 books. But what if it is next Thursday night and you find yourself with THE book. The ONE book that you most want to read??????

I mean, I have no idea what that ONE book might be, that's why we must all collect them all - right?

(runs off to go check the 99cent sales........ )

That's what I was wondering as well. I can't imagine how reading random pages or even chapters could be any fun.

I get through approx 2 books per week jsut travellign to and from work.
When I was in the service, they would move me for free including books, book cases, books, book cases, and so on. I started out with planks on bricks for shelves. That was heavy but I didn't care.

Finally it reached a point where after they came and estimated what I had, my commander called me in and said, "there is a limit." So I reduced. No more bricks.

When I became a civilian, I still worked, and they would move me, but there were more limits, so I I really started to reduce.

Then I started working part time, still flying, but on a contract basis, I had to move myself or pay for it.
When I got a moving company estimate, I reduced more, and decided to move myself with some friend's help.
I never knew how much what looked like a small box of books would weigh. I killed my back. I reduced even further. I mean really further.

Then since I had been missing the sea, I decided to live on a boat, but had to have a very large storage unit for the overflow. I reduced more.

And finally I swore, I would only buy eBooks, and light paper bound books and cull them every year. I still have a storage unit, but it is much smaller, and now after a lot of practice, it is easier to reduce.

The plan now is to live on the boat, and to have a storage unit garage for my truck, power equipment, tools and other stuff. The other stuff including books would now fit easily in a 5x10 foot unit or smaller if it is packed neat.

I am getting there.

^Freebies are clutter.

I've moved from five times in my life. I've culled. Again and again. I have < 10 books on my TBR list either in paper or electronic format and that is all. I've probably got less than a hundred paper books around the house. They have been culled and culled and culled and culled. They have gone in garage sale boxes. They have gone to used bookstores. They have gone to charitable organizations. The survivors quiver in fear when I walk by.
