To get back on topic and reply to the OP's question, I would not be surprised if downloading of movies is made available, with time restrictions, for the Fire.

Currently, movie rentals in the Android Market can be "pinned" or downloaded for later viewing. The downloaded file is good for 30 days but once the movie is started the clock begins a 24-hour countdown. In that 24-hour period there is no limit on the number of times the movie can be viewed.

Knowing Amazon, I would expect them to offer something similar, if not better.

Thank you. I did notice that Amazon offers a 48-hour period for most movies. A few are 7 days.

i wish i could use the roku player my 756k dsl (cant get aby better on my farm) isnt fast enough to work with roku 1.5 megabytes for standard and 3.0 megabytes for hd content according to roku's support page ... my question are those speed just for the streaming feature and would i be able to use my poor dsl connection to say download the movie overnight and save it on my roku player and play it the next day (this is what i currently do with itunes and my ipad) but id really like access to amazons library as well

Yes -- but can these be downloaded to one's device? I haven't tried yet since I normally stream the movies available via Prime. But like you, I need movies for traveling without an internet connection.
