I am definitely not an apple apologist but they had every right to sue that kid. The parts he was using to convert the phones to white had Apple logos on them. He was doing that without a license from Apple who is the trademark owner. Suing him was not only their right but also their obligation. had they not they risked loosing the ability to protect the Trademark in the future.

From what I remember on it, they were made at Foxconn, using the same dies as the legit parts, but were not stolen.

What the kid was doing was clearly wrong, and Apple were entirely within their rights to sue him. Who would actually argue with that?
If someone started selling devices with the Kindle logo on them, Amazon wouldn't sue?
