This mod, at least, agrees with the previous remarks that terms like "ifanatics" are insulting.

These are the kind of threads that Mobileread could do without. They disrupt friendly discussions about reading devices.

I have much respect for all of the open minded members here.

I own two Android tablets, a Windows 7 tablet, and an ipad 2. I also own a nook, and I'm trying to resist the temptation to buy a Kindle Fire...but I still want one. I love all of my devices and enjoy reading on them whenever I get a chance. I guess I'm a Nook-droidroiding-ifanatic who will soon experiment with Kindling. Apparently I'm seriously messed up...

Really don't think rabid fans have anything to do with marketing. Our culture defines itself by its investments. Be it financial investments or intangible ones like investments of time. Most people don't change their mobile phones every six months and when you're stuck with something for 2-3 years you want to be sure you've made the right choice. Heaven forbid you've wasted two years of your life so if you like it then everybody who doesn't must be wrong.

I, on the other hand, use macs exclusively for work. But I despise apple and most of their walled garden mentality. I develop for android, but I really don't like most of google's implementation of linux. Maybe I'm no different than anyone else, I also define myself by my investments. I'm just a huge bloody masochist.

The title of this thread is ridiculous and should be deleted.

It's only money, these days even the number 1 billion sounds so small--- so what does $200 for one Kindle matter?

One trillion is starting to sound small.

I've read everything you've written. I just disagree with it.

Suffice to say for the sake of others, I have not suggested that a user of any platform is less discerning than an another. ifanatics are those well-known group of hyper vigilant Apple defenders, not Apple users. Nor have I insulted any MR member, making me an increasingly small minority in this thread.
Yes you have, as I explained clearly
Quote:
I find your buttressing of the racial spectre with a strawman argument all the more offensive, both to myself, and to victims of actual racism. It's akin to playing the nazi card. Even if you add a caveat, you guarantee that all anyone hears is the word itself, not the argument.
Then stop stereotyping! That's the problem with your argument, with terms like ifanatics and kindleistas (and phandroids, for that matter). If you stereotype and then don't understand why that's a problem, people are going to explain it in racial terms.
Quote:

I've now spoken my piece on that matter. There is a difference between a real and thoughtful point about a clear and present sociological phenomenon and a platform flame, but that distinction is clearly lost.
Your point was neither clear, nor thoughtful, and I was not the only person to point this out.
Quote:

Given that, any mod so inclined has my full blessing to lock this thread down. People interested in productive disagreement, and therefore in conversation, don't dangle racism. Either way, I'm adding my own thread to my ignore list.
People who stereotype and then pretend that that's not what they are doing - or that it's not bad - are going to have to deal with having the problems of stereotyping explained to them using the best known examples.
