People don't always give up a dog because they want to either. Before I was born my parents had a little dog named Peewee. They had to get rid of him though because he became jealous of the attention I was getting after I was born and were afraid that he'd attack me sooner or later. So sometimes there are good reasons for giving an animal up. Off hand from the article it sounds like they have some medical problems associated with old age and he doesn't feel equal to taking care of that when he's on a busy schedule with work. And certainly with the economy the way it is and the rising cost of living a lot of people are probably having trouble making ends meet like they have in the past. It is sad that they are homeless at the moment but at least he sought help in finding them a new home rather than just abandoning them on the street or something.

I lied.

Just want to mention that I came across a brand-new book about another canine star--the great Rin Tin Tin. There's a post with the details in Reading Recommendations.

It looks fantastic, and I just ordered it. Can't wait to read it!
