Really? See, my worry is that so far all of the color renditions are 'colored' - that is, paintings or drawings, not photographs or anything from real life. At least not that I've seen so far.

1600x1200 way too good, isn't that about 1 and some pages on normal screens? I want one some day, if it's reasonable for my budget...

One user compared the Triton e-Ink display withe the Pearl of the Kindle and either the camera wasn't properly set or simply the blacks of the Triton were washed out.

The video shows this to a very slow device. And the resolution is only 800x600 at 9.7". Again, not good. They'd have been better without the color layer at 1600x1200. The resolution would then be even more detailed then the color images they showed in the video.
The b&w layer under the color filter is 1600x1200. But once you add the color filter, the resolution becomes 800x600 as you then need multiple B&W pixels to make the color. Last edited by JSWolf; 12-27-2011 at 07:27 PM. |

I hope this doesn't make it into US classrooms. eEducation should be software only with readers for common hardware. This would reduce cost and stave off obsolence.

Huh! My bad. Triton tries to be a 4 color surface, but uses RGBK instead of CMYK. WTF? I'm not sure how that would work--3 additive colors and one subtractive? I hope they did their homework.

It'd be the same as other e-ink devices, as it is the same technology. Probably 2fps at most, mainly the screen driver though, because some video's have shown a running DOOM game on an e-ink screen.
Instead of refreshing the screen, the driver actually refreshes the screen multiple times per second, though the individual pixel speed is still limited to 2fps (going from black to white or reverse). But that does not mean that the whole screen should suffer from that lag. By addressing different rows and columns of pixels a time, it may be possible to get near fluid motion out of these screens! |
