Yes. It's not yet available for sale to mortals, but the techcrunch web site was allowed to play with it:
http://techcrunch.com/2011/09/02/amazon-kindle-tablet/ There's a lot of discussion about this in other threads, and even here. |

Danko, you should checkout the new Sony Reader WiFi (PRS-T1). It's supposed to be released in October.
It was recently announced by Sony, has the same 6" e-Ink display used in the Kindle, and more features for PDF support such as multiple columns displays, and pinch zoom (multi-touch). The contrast and resolution is probably going not going that big of an improvement if at all since Sony has not mentioned it yet. You might want to wait a little longer as Amazon might release some official news about their next devices. There were rumors before of a new touch screen e-Ink version of the Kindle, but there has not been much recent news since the rumors of the upcoming LCD Kindle Tablet. |

To be honest, I wouldn't wait.
Why? Because, at any point in time, there will be "something really great" out on the market in just "a few weeks/months". It doesn't matter what time you pick, this will always apply. And whenever you buy something, a few months later something will be out that's better in some ways. You only have a few options to face that: 1.) Keep waiting forever and never buy anything. 2.) Buy new stuff every few months. 3.) Buy something where you say "this is good, it fits my needs" and keep it until it doesn't fit your needs anymore or is broken I usually opt for number 3. Exceptions are when there's a revolution ahead. Since this isn't the case now... |

I bought my Kindle when I considered it late to buy, April of 2011; had I waited, I would have missed out on so much goodness.
From what I can gather from the news, Amazon is really going gangbusters on the Tablet........I'm hearing nothing dependable about a new Kindle e-ink reader....so it may not come for many many more months. Perhaps not even till 2012; that's my guess. So buy and enjoy now. |

The K3 is a delight, I can't imagine a better ereader and I own several.
Whatever they come up with, now is still a good time at a great price to get one. Just my .02 |

Well, the new Kindle lineup is out now, so while one must still wait to get one of the new devices, one no longer has to wait to "see." Having purchased my K3 about a month ago, I thought I'd revisit this question.
I remain happy with my decision to go ahead and purchase the K3. If I were buying a device six weeks from now (when they will be shipping), I would probably get the $79 Kindle. I'm still shying away from touchscreens--I want to hear more feedback from people using them in everyday use--yet I wouldn't miss the physical keyboard. For the amount of time I use the keyboard, using the directional button to control a soft keyboard is acceptable. Also, I'd get the Special Offers version, as my understanding of the matter is they are actually special offers rather than intrusive ads. What I like best about the latest Kindle is how small and light it is. Having said all that, I'm liking my K3 more and more every day. I find no problem immersing myself in whatever I'm reading. I'm happily surprised at the quality of cheap (or free) independently-published material out there. And I've done plenty of reading on it already. There is no way I would trade the past 4 weeks plus the coming 6 weeks (10 weeks total) of no e-reader just so I could get the $79 Kindle on the horizon instead. I also won't be getting the new Kindle any time soon now that I already have the K3, as happy as I am with it. It seems to me Amazon has made all the right moves with their new lineup (and with their new availability in my local libraries), including keeping the Kindle Keyboard devices. As my eLibrary grows, I'm feeling I also made the right move. |

Having also just recently bought a Kindle 3, I too am quite pleased with the new line-up. Amazon have opened the scope of the Kindle up quite a bit with the different options, but managed to do so without making people like me peeved about buying the older model. But if I do decide to upgrade in future, there will be a couple of options. Win-win situation as far as I can see.

I am also a very recent purchaser of a K3 and have no regrets. I bought the KSO version with 3g and still consider it a bargain in light of the new lineup. They are not offering anything that I wish this one had. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Folks out there seem to love touch screens....
