![]() I guess my choice of words was... poor... But really... the separate stylus is disappointing. What about 3g? No-one is talking about 3g, which is a great feature of the 950... really, this might be a replacement for the 650s, but it's a huge step down from the 950. |

In fact you could translate IFA to "International Wireless Expo" Another thing that's sad but true, is that here in Germany salespeople will promise you the moon(i.e. lie to you) any chance they get. If you're a young, obviously tech savy looking person buying say, a new cell phone, they will lie strait at your face, while at the same time pretending to forget it ever happened. If a little old lady, born before television, is just looking to buy her first color TV, they will make it a point of honor to sell her the most expensive, internet integrated, 3D, 100" home cinema. |

You cannot compare the T1 to a 650 with PRS+. You have to compare like for like and that means the stock firmware out of the box. Most people won't be using PRS+ and that means they won't have access to its features. So really, your point while it means something to you, is really meaningless to most people with a 650.

There's no reason to buy the T1 if you already own a 650.
I'm disappointed. Sony lost the chance to stay on top with a really exciting new reader. While the price of T1 is very nice there's really no new feature. That way my 650 will still be my favorite. |

Thats what I am thinking. Luckily I was able to buy 3 650's from boarders a couple months back for $179 each and sell one for over $306. So I paid about $136 each for the other two. Gave one to my GF.

Referring to extraordinary T1 features
Quote:
But this is just precious! Listen to the german salesman struggling to deny that the T1 has anything to do with Android at about 1:17min into the vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOMi8...ayer_embedded#! I just love how the "obviously tech savy" guy just goes ahead and pushes the obviously android looking menu button to expose the obviously android looking menu. Who knows? It might have even been the same guy who promised my all that great stuff two days ago. I can't tell 'cause we were speaking german, but it makes no diff. If that guy were ever confronted with any of his lapses(which aren't really lapses 'cause thats all he ever does) on video, rest assured, he would smoothly construct a whole new fantasy, in which the "misunderstanding" was entirely the customers fault. And, of course, forget it the moment it comes out of his obnoxious, lying mouth. Plus, he'll do it without batting an eye. That's just SOP for german salesmen. |

I forgot to say, I asked the Sony guy if it was running on Android and he said in an evasive manner (without making eye contact), "Oh, I don't know anything about the technical stuff!" I said, "Well I notice it has a back button now, just like Android." He said, "Oh we just thought that a back button made things easier for our customers. Now you don't have to use the home button and start again, you can just press back." Then he demonstrated it for me.
He look decidedly uncomfortable the minute I mentioned Android. ![]() |

Wouldn't the fact that it runs android be something they'd be yelling from the rooftops? It's such an attractive feature, it promises the moon, they'd only sell more if they said "yes, this baby is android, ANDROID, you can hack it and add a thousand apps, this could be more fun than your phone and smaller than your ipad".
But, anything to keep the hope alive, I'm all for it. Although, I won't be for it when android dreamers are still saying that it really runs android because of the icons, even after/when/if it's proven that it doesn't. Maybe the reps are embarrassed and uncomfortable because they are forced to admit that yes, even after all this years, sony is still crazy and keeps their device unnecessarily limited out of exclusivity. Does anyone or the crowd ever start pressing the hosts with angry questions at these sony demos? Like, "why won't my ps3 update play sacd version 3.4, the way it did with earlier updates?!!!!!!" Does it ever turn into some twisted version of democracy protest, consumerism-style? Last edited by readingglasses; 09-04-2011 at 08:34 PM. |

I'll just mention the PS3. Sony is a Japanese company. Tradition is spelled in excruciatingly HUGE letters in Japan. The Nagasaki and Hiroshima a-bombs, for example would amount to something like a drop of ink in a bathtub full of clear water compared to the long term and enormous geographical scope of the effects of Fukushima. Dosn't make 'em change anything though. If the whole efing country doesn't give a s#ht that it's going down the nuclear drain(as proven by the so called anti nuclear power demos conducted by a few dozen people, and the fact that none of their nuke plants can ever stand chance), why should Sony make any difference. They're just such a small cog in the machine. |

Make it REAL, the T1 has Andriod
Kinda started rambling there again.
I pre-ordered the T1 before I went to Berlin and when he(or some other guy) told my all that remarkable stuff, which no other ereader can do, I just started believing. That's the evangelical part of any german salesman, if he knows you've already been sold, they will not stop expounding upon the fact that it was himself and only himself that brought you to the right decision. There is still the remote chance that the guy (german salesman(lier)1/99) may have told the me truth(inadvertently, while contra to his natural inclination) about the software running on the the T1. Maybe it is Sony SW and not Android. That would almost make me sh+t my pants. |

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. Despite the excellence of PRS+, I'd be much happier if this new gizmo actually runs a possibly "open and user extensible" platform, android.
But when you get the T1 and start checking out the device files and any other identifying marks, better be near a bathroom, just to be on the safe side. But I'll keep my fingers crossed for android, until we find out the definitive truth. |

And it's plausible that the reps at IFA (or anywhere) talk without knowing, much of the time.
The german sony rep in a recent youtube video about T1 at IFA (posted around here too), the one who says "it looks like, yes, but it isn't android", when he later says that only 4 readers in the world have the eink pearl screen (in that slithery yet charming, throaty german accent), he probably thinks he's telling the truth but he just doesn't know his stuff. here's one to add, making at least 5 in the world. http://www.onyxboox.com/product_info...44c3s3idjh2534 The onyx boox x60 "pearl" is indeed top of the line, too expensive and with a tiny market share, unknown to most people. The rep shouldn't be "most people" and yet, like everywhere, he is and he says more than he knows. So someone saying it is android can be just as ignorant as someone saying it definitely is not android. Not that android doesn't require hacking and possibly warranty voiding, if the vendor doesn't support customization out of the box. EDIT/UPDATE: look I just did it myself ! The onyx says it has pearl eink in one part of its specs and in another says it has vizplex. And I just noticed it. Confusion everywhere. I need an aspirin. The guy knows exactly that he never used an ereader(or ever read anything). But he will tell you(lie straight into the tech savy guys face) anything to make a sale(or in this case an impression). I guess, in this case we are dealing with a pretty big case of stupidity too. As for the charming, throaty and esp. slithery suff, that's just for girls, I'd have never noticed. I guess you kinda like it that the dude's got a german accent. Ah well, it ain't my place to criticize(readingglasses). Last edited by bibahbuzemann; 09-07-2011 at 04:50 PM. |

Regarding buying books from WiFi: I think that what really matters is the address you have specified in the account settings. Just like with desktop software. I live in Europe, in a country where there is no Sony bookstore and with PRS950 I was able to subscribe to newspapers and buy books using WiFi. Just provided friend's address in USA.
