I'm afraid mr campo is severly blocking out facts that the majority of people who bought the nook color bought it because they wanted a color lcd ereader. and while yes it does have a large hacking community behind it I would venture to guess that they make up less than 10% of the people who bought a nook color. Just look at the gender who makes up the largest % of owners of the nook color.

Nope, I am saying that the average consumer would most likely take a look at such an offering, and buy it over similarly priced Android tablets because they would prefer the Ios experience. Again, its clear that they overwhelmingly prefer the Ipad now over similarly priced and sized Android tablets for whatever reason. THe same thing would likely happen at the smaller size and price point, IMO. Why on earth would this NOT happen?
Maybe you could explain that to me , without the ad hominem arguments and the pointless Apple bashing.

No, talking about regular people.

Most of my friends (no coworkers) are not technical people. And again, if you go to the sub forums, you will find lot of threads from people who actually hacked the device.

I am not going to start a debate about that, but think that B&N stocks speaks for itself. And when you go back 1 year and compare, Amazon stocks are higher than they were 1 year ago, when B&N are down from what they were at that time too.

Going back to topic! Lenovo's tablet looks promising! Good price and does not look is "locked" in anyway, so it will catch some fans probably.

Lenovo has historically used mediocre screens in their laptops btu who knows with the tablets.

I think the pricing on an Apple 7" ipod/ipad would be interesting.

Current pricing:

iPod touch 8GB: $229
iPod touch 32GB: $299

10" iPad 16GB: $499

7" iPad 8 GB: ?

Maybe they painted themselves into a corner with the pricing?

I went ahead and actually read the review:

Quote:
Lenovo’s touting that the A1 sports an uncommon internal magnesium alloy roll cage structure that allows it to survive accidental drops (even ones where it falls on an edge), but in my short time with a pre-production unit, I couldn’t help but focus on the .4-inch / .88 pound slab’s plasticy external build. On the plus side, it does come in a rainbow of colors (blue, black, white, pink) and in general, the easily grippable 7-inch form factor continues to be my pick for reading and fast thumb typing. As for the display, the A1 is promised to have a 1024 x 600-resolution IPS LCD panel. However, the few models I was able to check out certainly didn’t have high quality screens, and poor horizontal viewing angles were one of the first things I noticed. Let’s hope we can chalk that up to pre-production materials.

In terms of software, you’re really looking at a fairly stock version of Gingerbread, though Lenovo’s preloading that Launch Zone widget that was on the IdeaPad K1. Sadly, the product manager confirmed that the A1 won’t be upgradable to Honeycomb, but it will have access to the Android Market and its own App Shop. As I mentioned, the unit I saw was pre-production so the software was quite flaky and some screen taps were unresponsive. It’s obviously too early to tell if the 8GB A1 will be worth your $200 (there will be a 16GB version for $249 as well), but the good news is that Lenovo has a bit of time to work out the kinks and you have more time to decide, since it won’t actually hit the market until mid or late September.

If they don't fix those things ( and the ship date is now only a few weeks away) , I don't think Amazon and B&N have anything to worry about.

Well, let's speculate:

8GB : $299
16GB: $399
32 GB: $499

BTW, isn't it peculiar that we have heard almost no speculation or leaks re the iPod touch? If Apple goes with an Iphone lite/iphone combo, that kinda open things up foranother device, doesn't it?

If Apple ditches the iPod touch, they'll lose me as a customer once my iPt4 gives out.

The timing couldn't be more perfect, just when the guys over at Amazon are deciding on a price point.

(I'm assuming your being sarcastic) Lenovo surely released this product specs and price well before so date to steal Amazon's thunder. A good marketing move. I'm guessing that Amazon's table will be similar to the nook and the K1.

Right now they're just deciding on a price (or already have).

Like I said before, I've never seen a nonrooted NC in the wild. Not too long ago I saw someone using one, and they had the Android market visible. That can only be done if rooted. When you have various magazines like PC World, and Wired giving how to guides on how to root and put on other roms, and Time talking about how easy it is to put the Android market on to the NC, it starts bleeding into the mainstream. A simple search for android market on nook color gives a ton of results on how to do it. You don't have to know about rooting, or even heard the term before, to have the desire for the Android Market. For many people, they know they have an android device, and so they want to run any android app they want.

A while back there was someone selling a pre-rooted SD card for the NC over at XDA-Developers. As I recall it was about thirty bucks. I don't recall how big the card was, but 16 Gb would seem about right.

I think this is the site, but they may be redoing it cause it brings up an error message.
