I don't honestly remember. It was likely a collection of Shakespeare's sonnets or a short story by Mark Twain. Those were certainly among the very first.

It would have been on a PC/xt 286 class machine with my then new NEC CD drive and a World Library CD around 1991-2. I didn't go portable until I got an HP 320LX (WinCE v1.0) around '97.

Probably a .prc or .lit file of some kind on my Compaq Aero 1550. It would have been 2000-2001 or thereabouts, so I have no idea which one it was. It was probably one of the MS .lit freebies that came on the PocketPC installation CD. On the jetBook it was probably one of the free preloaded AC Doyle titles, or something I sideloaded. I don't recall what it was on the K3.

Regards,
Jack Tingle

Wow. Assuming the dark ages count, when I was reading on a Palm Pilot, I think it would have to be Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness or something like that.

I can't recall what book I read first on the Nook Color (I want to say it was a zombie book).

The first book I read on the Kindle was The Zombie Survival Guide.

On PC it would have been The Living Shadow by Maxwell Grant (pen name for Walter Gibson).

My first hand held reading was on my old HTC wizard, and I believe I started with the entire Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

On my Aztak Pocket Pro, I began with a conversion of C.J. Cherryh's The Paladin. A cleaner copy than my Peanut Press conversion is now available from Baen.

My first ebook ever was probably The Secret Garden (on my computer). Then, on my iPod Touch, I think the first book was... The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie, maybe? For my Sony Reader (now sold to someone else) I'm pretty sure it was Airhead by Meg Cabot. And the first book I read on my Kindle was, I think, The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope.

Yes, if we're considering antiques, it was probably something Lovecraftian on my Casio Pocket PC sometime last century.

I remember, that the preloaded books on my gen3 were of no interest to me. The first book I bought at mobipocket was Hakan Nesser "Die Schwalbe, die Katze, die Rose und der Tod" (the swallow, the cat, the rose and death).
Shortly after I stumbled to mobileread and delved deeply into all those lovely Mystery novels (Lord Peter Wimsey! Thanks Patricia!). Ever since I read an old crime novel and a recent (English) book alternatingly.
