Cons: Anybody else find it a little bit insulting when movies turn the civil rights movement into a story about compassionate white people?

I am commenting on the book and not the movie. I can see where the movie would lose all the nuiance of the book.

The Book did a nice job of showing how the White Author was learning a great deal about the real lives of the Black women who had been hired to help her as a child. She benefits from the stories of the women she interviews but the women who provide their stories grow as people though the process. Along the way, the audience learns about their lives and the problems that they face and the jeopardy they were in for participating in the project.

It is not ideal, the White author gains a reputation and career off of the stories of the Black women. At least one of the contributors loses her job and the others could face recriminations and might be in physical danger for participating. But the picture it paints, I thought, was honest.

I am sure the movie misses all of this.

There should be-if it sold well on one platform, no reason why it wouldn't do well on others. Maybe Sony, B&N, and Kobo will release their sales numbers for it.

I'm curious to see how they compare.

The spat about battery life in the new Nooks and in the Kobo Touch told us that these companies are responding to every slightest provocation from Amazon.

If they had 1,000,000 sales of their own, they would have published it right away.

I really don't want to get in the way of your .epub vs .mobi discussion....
When this book first came out, I downloaded a sample and disliked it.
My daughter, who is on my account, recently requested it... so, I purchased it.
Read it. Enjoyed it. What changed? Had to get past the initial opinions and attitudes at the start of the book.

FWIW it's also #1 on the NYT E-Book Fiction list. Not surprising, I suppose.
Did you notice there is no "Buy" button for ebooks on the NYT list? All the print editions have them.

I just find it funny.

Is the book that good? It has the To Kill a Mockingbird for Lifetime vibe to it that makes me want to avoid like the measles.

I think that the treatment of the author's brother's maid killed any possibility of my reading this book or seeing the movie. Especially once I read that the maid sued after being encouraged by the author's brother - and that the father has "no comment" when asked about his daughter's relationship with the maid.

Amazon is the best. B&N is good too, but I personally like Amazon more.

You have a nook, why would buying in a non-supported format be the best?
