Forums really do suck for this sort of thing. A forum is good for the discussion which surrounds the topic of a firmware or application, but the core info belongs in a Wiki. Unfortunately the two are so poorly integrated that the Wiki often ends up out of date. IMO a question and answer site like StackExchange is a much better way of getting useful information across
