Odd. I find it easier to do just the opposite for the exact same reason.
No need to even have k4pc on my machine, just download to my desktop and drag and drop onto Calibre.

Sony is going to get a LOT of advertising/press/name recognition for their working with Pottermore. People will know about Sony soon. And if the articles saying the only way to get the Harry Potter eBooks in 2011 is bundled with a Sony, then Sony will sell more in the USA.

If I do, it's going to be because I want to.

That is a fault of Word and is carried over by the conversion process. The problem is that Word documents contains a lot of styles that have no use whatsoever for eBooks and Calibre just carries them over. The only way to deal is to then go into the ePub and clean it up. But as the Smashwords process ends after the conversion, your stuck either dealing or cleaning the ePub yourself.

This is why I dislike Smashwords. The code that comes out can be a mess and to clean it up can be a chore.

I agree with Hellmark. It does to me as well. It says that the author could not be bothered and doesn't care. Rock, what you you think if you had a lot of authors coming to MR and saying..."Here is my latest and greatest eBook. But it's only available in ePub.". Would you like that? I think not.

I don't go looking at Amazon to see if what's come out in ePub comes out at Amazon. But, I have seen some cases where an eBook is available in ePub in the USA and not for the Kindle in the USA, but it is available for the Kindle elsewhere outside the USA. And I've seen it the other was round too.

But to be honest, if Amazon went ePub, we would not be having this discussion as the authors who put an eBook up on Amazon DRM free would be able to sell to everyone.
